About Bafang

Bafang is an international manufacturer of complete systems and system components for electric vehicles, with a primary focus on e-bikes and e-scooters. Both Bafang's headquarters and development site are located in Suzhou, China, but the company operates not only in the Chinese market, but also in Europe and the USA.

Especially in Europe, Bafang is now one of the most successful providers in this market sector. To be closer to European customers, Bafang even opened a branch in the Netherlands in 2012.

Bafang e-bike motors

Bafang's product range includes not only high-quality e-bike motors, but also fully-fledged pedelec systems, including batteries, HMIs, and sensors, which ensure a particularly natural riding experience. The company produces rear-wheel, front-wheel, and mid-drive motors. At the beginning of 2015, Bafang presented the innovative Bafang Max Drive Mid-engine drive system that quickly became very popular.

The Bafang Max Drive The mid-drive motor is available in various versions: a 250-watt version for regular e-bikes with motor support up to 25 km/h, and a 350-watt version for fast S-Pedelecs (with motor support up to 45 km/h). The system is also available with 24, 36, or 48 volts. A striking feature of the Bafang Max Drive The drive is powered by a high torque of 80 Nm, which makes the motor assistance quite powerful. The Bafang motor is also considered extremely quiet, and thanks to a dual bottom bracket sensor, zero-cadence response is now possible (similar to Bosch drives). A practical push assist is also included.

At Bafang Max Drive The drive system is a modular system – meaning that e-bike manufacturers can choose between different components and combine them as they wish. The system consists of a motor, battery (down tube or luggage rack), on-board computer with display, and separate controls for the handlebars. The system is very easy to install. The drive must be installed directly into the frame, but should fit all commercially available bicycle frames. There are a few things to consider when choosing the right tuning tool for your Bafang e-bike drive. Before ordering a tuning tool, you must first confirm what type of display connector your e-bike is equipped with (UART or CAN) and how many pins are on the speed sensor connector (3 pins, 4 pins, or 8 pins).

This is the only way to find a tuning tool that fits and is compatible with your Bafang e-bike. We'll show you how to proceed:

1. Determine display connector / communication protocol

    The first step is to unplug the display connector from your e-bike. The shape of the connector will tell you whether your e-bike uses UART or CAN communication.

    2. Determine the number of speed sensor pins

    When choosing a suitable tuning for Bafang e-bikes, it is not only the communication protocol used that matters (UART or CAN), but also the Number of pins on the speed sensor connector.

    To do this, you first need to remove the protective cover of the motor. Now check the speed sensor connector, which leads into the frame of the e-bike, and make sure that it is connected to 3 pins, 4 pins or with 8 pins Is provided.
