Bosch Smart System (Bosch Gen4 BES3)
Here you can find tuning tools that work with the Bosch Gen4 Smart System BES3 e-bike drive system (from 2022) ("BES3" stands for "Bosch Development Stage 3"). These drives are often also referred to as "Bosch Smart System 2022." In each case, the meaning is the same. Bosch itself, by the way, simply refers to the "smart system" with which it wants to "push into the digital e-bike future." Please refer to the user manual for your Bosch e-bike.

What components does the new Bosch e-bike drive system consist of?
First of all, it must be said that the main focus of the new Bosch Gen4 Smart System (BES3) drive clearly focuses on smart connectivity, meaning it's supposed to be an "intelligent" drive. Control is via the eBike Flow app, with regular updates designed to continually expand and update the system. Even though the Bosch Gen 4 Smart System Drive (from 2022) with the already known Performance Line CX engine, it is something completely new – namely a self-contained system consisting of the following interconnected elements (new components have since been added):
Drive Unit
The drive is based on the proven (Gen4) Performance Line CX motor; a true powerhouse with a maximum torque of 85 Nm. The eMTB mode, in particular, with its Extended Boost, ensures dynamic handling with strong acceleration, even in tight corners.
eBike Flow App
The control center and central element of the system. The app allows you to control all functions of the smart Bosch 2022 system. You can also record rides, customize riding modes, etc. New features and updates are constantly being released and can be downloaded via Bluetooth. This allows you to update and customize the e-bike drive system. Important: Whether you have a Smart System You can tell if the "eBike Flow App" works with it by whether it has it. Tip: Be sure to disable the "Automatic Updates" function in the "eBike Flow App."
PowerTube 750
An extremely powerful and long-lasting battery that should be able to handle even long and demanding tours. Includes a smart battery management system.
4A Charger
With the charger, the Power Tube 750 can be fully charged in just six hours; a 50 percent charge takes just two hours.
LED Remote
This fully networked control center provides the connection between the e-bike and the eBike Flow app. LED Remote is easy and intuitive to use. It shows you all relevant information, such as the riding mode (of course, this data can also be accessed via the smartphone app if needed). A practical feature is that the display brightness automatically adjusts to the ambient light, so the LEDs should still be easy to read even in strong sunlight.
Kiox 300
More than just a simple display, it's a smart on-board computer equipped with a high-resolution color display. Since the Kiox 300 is located directly on the handlebars, you always have important parameters in view (e.g., your individual fitness data). Animations and images support intuitive operation. The Kiox 300 on-board computer is also expected to benefit from regular updates.
Meanwhile, Bosch Smart System e-bikes also use other displays and control units (e.g., Intuvia 100 or Purion 200, etc.). This list is therefore not exhaustive.
Update: How do you know if you have a Bosch Smart System E-Bike has?
The following characteristics will tell you whether you are actually a Bosch Smart System E-Bike have:
-Your e-bike is equipped with the Bosch eBike Flow App compatible.
-Your e-bike is compatible with the display types Kiox 300 Kiox 500, Intuvia 100 or Purion 200 displays – in these cases it is also definitely a Bosch Smart System Bike.
Attention: Is your e-bike equipped with the old displays, i.e. either Kiox or Intuvia – without a number behind it! – it is not availabe around a Bosch Smart System E-Bike! The Bosch displays Purion, Nyon, Nyon 2 or Smartphone Hub come at Smart System not availabe for use!
-A Bosch Smart You can also recognize the E-Bike system by the control panels "LED Remote" or “System Controller + Mini Remote”.
The shape of the plug on the charging cable also indicates Bosch Smart System (BES3) differs from previous Bosch drive systems:

Does the Bosch E-Bike charging cable have a square plug (as shown above), it is a model with Bosch Smart System. Is it a round Plug, do you have an older Bosch e-bike without Bosch Smart Drive system - in this case you will find suitable tunings in the categories Bosch Gen4 or Bosch Gen2 & Gen3.

There is some confusion, especially with the engines, because Bosch uses the old engine designations (Gen2, Gen3 Gen4) for Smart System simply continued, although there are certainly differences. For example, the "Performance Line CX" engine of the Bosch Smart System is based on its predecessor (of the same name), but it was adapted to the Smart System adapted. It is therefore no longer electrically compatible with the "old" system.
A quick note on Bosch Gen5:
Bosch has announced a new drive system for the end of 2024 / beginning of 2025, namely "Bosch Gen5". This is primarily a revised version of the "Bosch Performance Line CX" drive, which is why it is sometimes referred to as "Bosch CX Gen5". With this drive, which is again in the "Bosch Smart System" is integrated, there is also a new display, namely the Purion 400Whether the previous tunings for the Bosch Smart Whether the system will also be compatible with "Bosch Gen5" cannot be said with certainty at this time. For this reason, the tuning tools listed on this page are not yet not availabe approved for Bosch Gen5. VOLspeed V2 as well as those PearTune MSO 3.0 and 4.0 Modules successfully tested on Bosch Gen5 e-bike motors (motor software 15.24.2). They are apparently compatible with Bosch Gen5 drives (assuming the bikes don't have a rim magnet or ABS).
Can e-bikes with Bosch Gen4 2022 BES3 / Bosch Smart System be optimized?
Yes! However, shortly after the market launch of the new Bosch Smart Systems discovered that the motor's connections had been completely redesigned, for example, the diameter of the motor connectors had changed. There were also various firmware changes. For this reason, previous tuning solutions for Bosch Gen4 are unfortunately not compatible with the new system. Existing tuning tools and equipment therefore had to be adapted. One problem, for example, was that suitable plugs were initially not freely available on the market. However, tuning developers were not deterred, and compatible tuning tools were available surprisingly early. The first functioning tuning solution came onto the market in March 2022: the "sIMPLEk Pro for Bosch Smart System 2022." Further tools have followed or are in the works. However, the display will likely no longer show the correct speed.

RedPed for Bosch Smart System (BES3)
One of the most recommended tuning modules for Bosch Smart System E-Bikes ever. Thanks to the compatibility with the RedPed App You benefit from numerous setting and optimization options. The desired maximum speed can be individually adjusted. Various practical driving parameters can be displayed via the app. Another great advantage is that the real speed remains readable in the e-bike display (via the second digit and the decimal point). A completely new option is firmware updates on the module. No extra battery is required; the power is supplied by the e-bike battery.
VOLspeed V2 for Bosch Smart System (BES3)
A tuning module to remove the speed limit of Bosch Smart System E-Bikes. Compared to its predecessor, the VOLspeed V2 even compatible with the Bosch Gen5 Smart System Updates from early 2025 (motor software 15.24.2 and LED remote / Purion 200 / System Controller software version 15.12.3). The maximum speed can be set to a desired value (up to 45 km/h). A special feature is the optional "Dynamic Mode": If this is activated, the motor support no longer stops so abruptly when the maximum speed is reached. The module is controlled via the e-bike's control buttons. With active tuning, the speed display is no longer correct above approximately 21 km/h. We cannot guarantee the VOLspeed We particularly recommend these products, as the modules are among the tunings with the lowest susceptibility to errors in Bosch Smart System drives are also compatible with Bosch Gen5 2025!
Badass Box 3.4 reloaded by Mountain Tuning for Bosch
The tuning classic in a new edition, and at a very affordable price. This tuning tool for Bosch e-bikes has the great advantage that the box can be easily attached (=tuning active) and removed again at any time (=tuning canceled). The original condition of the e-bike can be restored in no time. Badass Box 3.4 removes the 25 km/h speed limit, but the maximum achievable speed is limited to 36 km/h. The advantage: If you use the tool at a Bosch Smart System E-Bike, triggering the integrated tamper detection is virtually impossible. Tuning is contactless, so damage to the motors is impossible. When tuning is active (i.e., the box is plugged in), the e-bike will not display correct values. Compatible with Bosch Classic Line ( + ), Active Line ( + ), Performance Line (CX), Bosch Smart System / BES3.
MTT SmartChip V2: Mountain Tuning for Bosch Gen4 Smart System 2022 (BES3)
This tuning module lifts the 25 km/h speed limit from Bosch Smart System e-bikes completely. There is even the option to set the maximum speed to a custom value. This works by means of certain wheel movements when accelerating the e-bike. In the same way, three different operating modes can be set, so that the tuning can be switched on and off as needed. This module is a practical plug-in solution. Because the plug-in is very small and compact, it can be installed even in the tightest engine compartment. When the tuning is active, the display no longer shows the correct speed above approximately 22 km/h. The module does not require its own battery.

This tuning Sensor lifts the 25 km/h speed limit from Bosch Smart System e-bikes. By making specific wheel movements when starting up the e-bike, different operating modes can be selected, allowing the tuning to be switched on and off. RimBoost: Chip for Bosch Smart System with rim magnet (rim magnet)
The first truly working tuning solution specifically for Bosch Smart System e-bikes with rim magnets. No error messages were generated during extensive test rides. This tuning chip removes the speed limit, allowing you to ride freely. The chip itself must be installed in the engine compartment; the original Bosch rim magnet is replaced by the RimBoost chip sensor. This sensor transmits signals to the RimBoost electromagnet, which must be placed on the outside of the motor housing. The magnet, in turn, transmits modified signals to the internal Bosch sensor, unlocking the drive. The e-bike display does not display correct values. The RimBoost chip does not require an additional battery.
Badass Box 5 for Bosch Gen4 & Gen5 with rim magnet
The Badass Box 5 is a practical tuning solution to remove the 25 km/h limit of Bosch Smart System E-Bike drives with rim magnet. In contrast to its predecessors, the Badass Box 5 is no longer limited to a specific sensor type like its predecessors, but is adapted to various drive systems with an adapter (so the box can continue to be used with a new adapter if you change bikes). The tuning can be configured and new firmware can be installed using the free "Boost Buddy App." When tuning is active, the e-bike display does not show correct values, but you can view the actual speed via the app. The box is powered by a long-lasting AAA battery (replaceable).

The latest-generation tuning dongle from Team MTT is even externally programmable. This module lifts the 25 km/h speed limit of Bosch Smart System 2022 e-bike drives (the systems are also referred to as Bosch BES3 or Bosch Gen5). The actual speed remains readable, but via the second digit and the decimal place of the speedometer (a reading of 13,7 km/h would correspond to a speed of 37 km/h, etc.). Easy installation thanks to precisely fitting connectors. After installation, the tuning tool is not visible from the outside. Compatible with Bosch Smart System 2022 (Performance Line CX Gen4 BES3 engines).
