About Sachs
SACHS is primarily known as an automotive supplier; the brand's origins date back to 1895. Acquired by Mannesmann in 1997, SACHS merged with ZF Friedrichshafen AG in 2011. Today, SACHS is a brand of ZF Friedrichshafen AG. The broad product range includes high-quality driveline components, as well as chassis components such as damping systems and shock absorbers – not only for cars and trucks, but also for motorcycles, rail vehicles, and more. The headquarters for development, sales, and production of the SACHS brand are located in Schweinfurt.
SACHS Micro Mobility, a joint venture between ZF, Magura, BMZ, and BFO, was launched in 2018. That same year, the company presented its first e-bike drive system, the SACHS RS motor. At Eurobike 2019, additional Sachs motors for various e-bike types were also presented.
Sachs e-bike motors
The classic SACHS RS e-bike motor set completely new standards in performance with an outstanding maximum torque of 110 Newton meters. The drive was primarily developed for urban, cargo, and, of course, e-MTBs. What's particularly interesting is that the RS drive delivers very high torque even at low cadences of 40-60 pedal revolutions per minute. This is particularly beneficial for inexperienced riders off-road or cargo bike riders in the tiring stop-and-go traffic of the city. This powerhouse should also be able to handle steep climbs. Thanks to innovative motor management, the drive not only scores points with beautifully controlled power delivery and harmonious assistance, but also with long ranges – even in the most powerful riding mode (the rider can choose between four different riding modes). The RS motor weighs 3,5 kg.
SACHS Micro Mobility offers e-bike manufacturers the opportunity to individually integrate the RS motor into their respective vehicle concepts. The drive system is available in a Pedelec (25 km/h) and an S-Pedelec version (45 km/h).
Depending on the e-bike type and intended use, manufacturers can also choose from a variety of Sachs Micro Mobility batteries. The offering ranges from standardized platform systems to customized solutions.
At Eurobike 2019, SACHS Micro Mobility presented several new e-bike motors for a variety of applications. For example, the Sachs GT 2,8, which weighs just 525 kg and is designed to be a perfect fit for e-hardtails and e-city bikes. The RS 925 was developed specifically for e-mountain bikes. With the Sachs CT 725, the company even presented a motor specifically designed for heavy loads—an ideal solution for e-cargo bikes.
Can Sachs e-bike motors be optimized?
Yes! Although SACHS Micro Mobility has only been on the market since 2018, there are already some tuning tools available that allow you to remove the preset speed limit of SACHS e-bike drives.
What tuning tools are available for Sachs e-bike drives?
PearTune MSO 4.0 for Sachs
A tuning tool that not only completely removes the 25 km/h speed limit on Sachs e-bikes, but also allows you to set the maximum assisted speed to a desired value. An original feature is the chip lock, which makes the tuning "invisible" to outsiders. The tuning can be activated/deactivated via the bike's control buttons, and the display shows the correct speed. The module does not require its own battery. Compatible with Sachs e-bike motors from 2020 onwards.
