Tuning chips (installed internally, invisible)
These modules are installed directly in the engine or under the engine cover and manipulate the speed signal. They are invisible from the outside and often offer additional functions such as app control, customization, or hidden activation via key combination, and sometimes the display of the correct values on the screen. Dongles & adapters (externally removable)
These solutions plug into a built-in wiring harness between the engine and the display, eliminating the need to open the engine during activation. The entire tuning logic is contained within the dongle itself, which can be easily removed when needed—ideal for those who want to remain flexible. Examples: Splug, Sx2 dongle
Attachable boxes above the sensor (contactless)
A visible but easily solvable solution is the Badass BoxIt is attached contactlessly over the speed sensor and modifies its signal. Without any connection to the electronics, it can be quickly removed – perfect if you want to return to compliance with the road traffic regulations. Example: Badass Box
Sensor replacement with integrated unlocking
This method replaces the original speed sensor with a modified version that incorporates the entire tuning logic—invisible from the outside, as it looks like a regular sensor. Particularly elegant for permanent conversions.
Controller replacement (complete control system replaced)
Those who want to be consistent can replace the entire motor controller with an open version. This solution is complex, but particularly stable and powerful – especially for ambitious e-scooter owners with technical expertise. In addition to unlocking, performance improvements are also possible.
