The Splug is a tuning tool in the form of a weatherproof dongle that can be removed from the e-bike in seconds. Since all the hardware and software is contained in the dongle, no tuning-related components remain on the e-bike after removal. Only the mount and wiring harness remain. The e-bike then regains its original handling characteristics, with legal assistance up to 25 km/h.
This is a clear advantage over tuning modules or chips that are permanently installed on the e-bike and cannot be removed so quickly.
Since the Splug Dongle is very compact, so it can be easily stored in your pocket or backpack after removal.
In contrast to conventional tuning dongles, the Splug It's even programmable to a certain extent, allowing tuning to be activated or deactivated, for example. The maximum supported speed is also adjustable.
The Splug is considered an extremely reliable tuning tool that almost never generates errors. Unlike traditional dongles that are equipped with a jack or USB connector, the Splug equipped with an innovative, robust magnetic connector.
Splug Functionality
After installation, the Splug the current speed profile and forwards manipulated values. There is no direct intervention in the engine electronics; the dongle simply accesses the sensor signal.
In this way, the 25 km/h speed limit is outsmarted, which makes it possible to drive much faster with full engine support.
The tuning principle corresponds to the well-known Mountain Tuning Solutions (“MTT SmartSensor” & “MTT SmartChip“), which have always proven to be very reliable.
Correct speed display up to approx. 22 km/h
When tuning is activated, speeds above 25 km/h are blocked for the motor firmware. Due to this operating principle, the correct speed is only shown on the e-bike display up to just below 25 km/h (only up to 22 km/h in the factory state). After that, the displayed speed is "frozen," so the same speed is always displayed – even if you're actually riding faster.
As a result, the total kilometers will no longer correspond to the actual distance traveled.
Mounting
Installing the dongle is straightforward. The magnetic mount must be attached to the e-bike, e.g., the frame, using the included cable ties. A thin cable harness is attached to the mount, which must be routed to the motor compartment and plugged into the speed sensor cable. To access the connectors, the motor cover (and sometimes a crank) must be temporarily removed.
To activate the tuning, simply place the dongle near the holder – the strong magnetic force ensures that the dongle attaches itself to the holder. The tuning is then immediately active (=speed limit is removed).

Since the connectors of the Splugs are waterproof, the Splug It can be used even in adverse weather conditions – neither dust nor moisture can penetrate from the outside. The magnetic connection holds the dongle securely, even on trails or downhill rides. This has been confirmed by extensive test rides.
The dongle is powered by the e-bike battery; an additional battery is not required.
Splug Settings
Optionally, the Splug Tuning allows you to set 3 different operating modes. The modes are programmed using specific wheel movements while the e-bike is being powered up. During these movements, the spoke magnet must be moved past the sensor. This allows you to set, for example, whether the tuning should actually be active when the dongle is plugged in.
This also allows you to specify the maximum speed the motor support should reach. More detailed information can be found in the enclosed manual.
Please note: Programming is not mandatory. By default, the dongle is always in "Tuning permanently active" mode, with maximum km/h support. In other words: As soon as the dongle is plugged in, the speed limit is completely removed.
The following modes can be programmed if required:
-Tuning permanently activated (Factory setting): The speed limit is completely removed, correct speed display only up to approx. 22 km/h, after which the displayed speed is “frozen”).
-Tuning permanently deactivated: Motor support only up to 25 km/h with correct speed display on the display.
-Tuning according to switch-on condition: Here you can spontaneously determine whether tuning should be ON or OFF when turning on the bike. To activate tuning, the magnet must be in front of the sensor for at least 4 seconds when turning on; otherwise, tuning remains inactive.

The tuning dongle is exclusively compatible with e-bikes with EP8/EP800 drive systems. Compatible with all known software variants for EP8/EP800 drive systems.
NOT compatible with EP801.

Please do not perform any e-bike updates after installing and using a Splugs! Compatibility may no longer be guaranteed after this! Above all, do not perform updates with the Splug by!

Tools
To install an E-Bike tuning chip in your E-Bike it is sometimes special tools necessary. Please check previously whether you have to open the engine compartment to access the motor connectors. This is especially true for products from the Modules, Kit, Dongle and Sensor.
Normally (but not always) opening the engine compartment requires loosening the crank. To do this, you will need a Crank puller. Some engines also have a Spider Tool This is important for opening the lock ring on the chainring - because the chainring must be loosened here so that the motor cover can be removed to access the inside of the motor. If you want to replace the chainring (wear, change the gear ratio), you often need a Spider Tool. The necessary special tools can also be found in our shop. To remove the engine cover, you usually need a Torx or Allen key. For installing the modules, appropriate Pliers from the electronics sector.
Do you decide not availabe for a tuning solution that you have to install in the engine compartment (Box, Software), there is no need for any tools. In our Guide you will find further tips.

Important information on tuning measures for e-bikes and e-scooters
We expressly point out that any modification to e-bikes and e-scooters – whether through hardware tuning (e.g. tuning chips, dongles, sensor adapters) or software tuning (e.g. apps, programs or USB tools) – can have consequences.
Tuning measures on e-bikes and e-scooters mean that they are no longer permitted for use on public roads as defined by the StVZO (Road Traffic Licensing Regulations). Legal use is therefore only possible on private property or - if permitted - in competitions. Riding an e-bike or e-scooter modified by tuning measures on public roads can lead to criminal liability for driving without a license (Section 21 of the Road Traffic Act) and driving without insurance (Section 6 of the PflVG). Tuning measures on e-bikes can lead to the loss of warranty rights and manufacturer guarantees. Furthermore, tuning measures can lead to the loss of insurance coverage and benefits from accident victim assistance in the event of an accident. The e-bike (or e-scooter) modified by tuning measures is subject to additional stress due to the higher speed, which can lead to safety risks.
