Badass Box

Badass Box – Tuning without installation for Bosch, Yamaha & Co
Badass Box - Contactless e-bike tuning

The Badass Box is a popular and long-established tuning tool for e-bikes from various manufacturers - e.g. for models from Bosch, Yamaha, Brose, Impulse, Shimano or Bafang. The Badass Box Removes the 25 km/h speed limit on your e-bike. A major advantage of this tuning tool is that the box can be attached or removed in seconds. Once the box is removed, the e-bike regains its original handling characteristics and can be used legally on public roads again.
The Badass Box in the 4th generation
The Badass Box is continuously improved and optimized. The latest version is the "Badass Box 4", which of course still reliably removes the speed limit, but has a whole range of advantages over the previous versions.
The tuning tool is now more stable and therefore more resistant to vibrations and impacts than ever before. The electronics are specially encapsulated, and the battery compartment is now splash-proof, so even extreme outdoor use on wet or muddy surfaces is no longer a problem. The firmware has been even better adapted to the respective motors of the various manufacturers. Thanks to a new, slimmer housing and a patented snap lock, the box can now be attached and removed much more quickly. In addition, the previous CR2 battery has been replaced with a more powerful AAA battery, which is not only cheaper and easier to obtain, but also increases the range to over 7.000 km.
Is the Badass Box Once attached, it causes the transmitted speed to be divided by 19 starting at a speed of approximately 2 km/h, which doubles the maximum motor support to 50 km/h – but this also means that the display then only shows half of the actual speed (i.e. if the display shows 20 km/h, you are actually driving 40 km/h, etc.). The microprocessor of the Badass Box By the way, it switches on and off fully automatically.
The Badass Box is a genuine quality product made in Germany – each device undergoes multiple checks during production. The box is only authentic with the embedded seal and serial number on the casing.

Badass Box Installation
The Badass Box can be installed or removed very easily and without much time. Here is an example of the classic Badass Box (depending on the e-bike and Badass Box However, there may be variations depending on the type):
- Bring the Badass Box via the speed sensor of your e-bike.
- Secure the Badass Box with an O-ring on the sensor (no longer necessary with the Badass Box 4, because of the patented quick release).
- When using it for the first time, you'll need to replace the Phillips screw on the magnet with the included flat head screw. This has the advantage that you won't need any tools to reposition the magnet in the future!
- Move the magnet on the bicycle spoke: Open screw – move magnet – close screw.
- That’s it – your e-bike is now tuned and ready to go!
Badass Box Removal
- Loosen the O-ring (no longer necessary with the Badass Box 4).
- Pull the Badass Box simply off.
- Move the magnet to its original position.
- That's it – the tuning has been reversed and your e-bike has its original riding characteristics back!
Correct positioning of the magnet
Once the Badassebikes chip tuning box has been attached and secured to your e-bike's speed sensor, all that's left to do is reposition the magnet on the bicycle spoke. This raises the question for many users as to exactly where the magnet should be positioned. Unfortunately, this question cannot be answered clearly, as there can be significant differences depending on the e-bike model (in particular, the distances can vary considerably).
If you have problems with the correct magnet placement, we recommend the following procedure:
- Put the Badassebikes Chiptuning Box on the speed sensor of your Pedelec and secure the box with the O-ring (at Badass Box 4 no longer necessary due to patented snap closure).
- Move the magnet on the spoke approximately 2 cm behind the box, toward the center of the wheel. Make sure to rotate the magnet with the face facing up or down, if possible.
- Now turn the wheel at least 5 times and check whether a speed is displayed on the screen. Make sure you turn the wheel at least 5 times – only then will the box have sufficient time to wake up from any possible standby mode.
- If, contrary to expectations, no speed display is visible on the display, move the magnet 2 mm closer to the box.
- When a speed indicator appears on the display, you can push the magnet another 1 mm towards the box.
- Now the magnet is in the correct position.
If you follow the above procedure exactly, the installation of the Badass Box no more problems with magnet positioning.
