MBIQ – Sensor-based e-bike tuning for Bosch, Yamaha, Shimano, Bafang & more

MBIQ MBIQ represents a whole family of compact, signal-based tuning solutions for e-bikes. Instead of flashing motor software, MBIQ products work directly on the speed signal – as Sensor replacement, Plug-in module or Universal solution.

What makes MBIQ special

MBIQ solutions do not intervene in the engine control unit like classic software tools, but rather modify the sensor signal. As a result, they have been considered robust, relatively firmware-independent tuning solutions for many different drive systems for years.


MBIQ system overview

The MBIQ family essentially consists of four product logics today:

MBIQ-S

Sensor solution / Sensor replacementThe original speed sensor is replaced by an MBIQ-S sensor. This is a clean, compact solution for many mid-motor systems.

MBIQ-P

Plug-in solutionThe module is plugged in between the speed sensor and the motor controller. Especially popular for Bosch, Shimano, Yamaha/Giant as well as other systems.

MBIQ-CC / MBIQ-CC2

Universal solutions for many mid-enginesSuitable for various 2- or 3-wire sensors, designed for users seeking a flexible kit solution. The CC2 variant adds further switching options.

This includes, for example, MBTQ for TQ / Flyon as well as other specialized solutions for special engine platforms. 


MBIQ variants and installation principles

Sensor solutions (MBIQ-S)

At the MBIQ-S The existing speed sensor is replaced by the tuning tool. This reduces installation effort and makes the solution particularly compact. With active tuning, manipulated values ​​are displayed from approximately 22 km/h. Many variants are programmable by the customer.

Plug-in solutions (MBIQ-P)

At the MBIQ-P The module is plugged in between the sensor and the motor control unit. This also makes installation very easy. The manufacturer describes MBIQ-P as a microcontroller-based solution reduced to the essentials for removing the 25 km/h speed limit.

Kits / Universal solutions (MBIQ-CC / CC2)

The MBIQ-CCThese products are universal solutions for many common motor and sensor types. They are integrated into the sensor cable and are particularly interesting for users looking for a more universal, cross-system solution. CC2 expands the basic idea to include additional switching options.

Special solutions

For special platforms such as TQ HPR 120S, Haibike Flyon For specialized lightweight drives, there are dedicated MBIQ/Yeollin solutions. Yeollin is currently highlighting particularly new MBIQ-P solutions for Bosch Smart System BES3, Fazua Ride 60 and TQ HPR 50 Hervor.


Motion Programming – how to adjust programmable MBIQ products directly on the bike

Many programmable MBIQ products use the so-called Motion ProgrammingThis means you don't need an app or a separate programming device. Instead, you make the settings directly on the e-bike – via a defined sequence of steps. Switch on, magnet position and wheel movement.

The basic idea behind motion programming

The MBIQ detects certain movements of the spoke magnet on the sensor and switches to a programming mode. You can then select parameters step by step. The system uses your display as feedback. The values ​​shown there are not normal driving data in this case, but rather serve as a guide in the settings menu.

What you can set via Motion Programming

Depending on the MBIQ variant, you can adjust the following points, among others, via Motion Programming:

  • Operating mode / mode
  • Maximum support speed
  • Starting behavior, for example, always active or only active under certain conditions
  • System-dependent additional parameters in individual programmable variants

Overview of the most important operating modes

The following operating modes are particularly relevant for the programmable MBIQ versions shown:

  1. Permanent tuning enabled: The limit has been permanently removed. No more true 1:1 values ​​are displayed above the switching range.
  2. Permanent tuning disabled: No lifting of the speed limit, normal driving behavior up to 25 km/h.
  3. Tuning based on power-on condition: The tuning is only active if a defined magnet/sensor situation was maintained at startup.
Important information about the modes

Many programmable MBIQ devices are factory-set in this mode "Tuning permanently active" It is delivered with the maximum support limit. However, the specific modes and values ​​available to you always depend on the respective product version.

This is how you get into programming mode

  1. Turn your e-bike off completely and wait a short moment.
  2. Position the spoke magnet at the level of the sensor before switching on.
  3. Turn on the system. What matters is the actual startup of the system, not the complete boot-up of the display.
  4. Leave the magnet for about 4 to 5 seconds stand in front of the sensor.
  5. Remove the magnet afterwards for less than 1 second from the sensor.
  6. Place the magnet back in front of the sensor. Depending on the waiting time, the desired settings menu will now open.
  7. If you remove the magnet again now, the MBIQ will enter programming mode.

If everything has been done correctly, the display will show you a specific speed value. This value should be understood as a menu display – not as the actual speed.

Here's how to navigate the menu

Within Motion Programming, you navigate through the menu items by turning the wheel. Each turn, or each movement of the magnet past the sensor, advances the menu by one step.

The important thing is: the magnet must not be removed after the rotation. do not remain permanently in front of the sensorFurthermore, what's usually crucial isn't the exact km/h value on the display, but rather the... Order of displayed values.

Set maximum support speed

You set the maximum assisted speed using the same basic principle as the operating mode. The displayed values ​​correspond to the selected limit or parameter range. The tuning then provides support up to approximately this set speed.

In some versions, the value is displayed as a multiplier or in steps. Therefore, you shouldn't always interpret the display as the exact target speed, but rather as a system-specific setting.

Practical tip

If the limit is not lifted despite the active setting, a switchable start mode is often active. In that case, you must repeat the power-on condition with the magnet correctly positioned during startup.

Save or discard changes

If you don't want to save any changes, simply turn off the system. The last saved setting will then be retained.

If you want to save a change, you attach the magnet to at least 4 seconds in front of the sensor. After saving, the display typically shows 0 km/h and remains in this state. After that, you should... start anew.

Important notes on motion programming
  • Motion programming is only available on appropriately prepared or programmable MBIQ versions.
  • The exact menu structure and selectable values ​​may vary depending on the product.
  • For systems with an immobilizer or transponder, this may need to be deactivated for the duration of the programming.
  • More important than individual numerical values ​​is usually the correct order of the displayed menu steps.

New developments in the manufacturing environment

The previous MBIQ website focused more heavily on Bosch Gen2-Gen4, classic Shimano and Yamaha solutions. However, Yeollin's current manufacturer page shows that MBIQ now extends significantly further into newer platforms.

  • MBIQ-P for Bosch Smart System BES3 The manufacturer explicitly highlights it as a new solution.
  • Likewise, new solutions for Fazua Ride 60 and TQ HPR 50 mentioned.
  • This underlines that MBIQ is not just a “classic Bosch/Yamaha/Shimano system”, but is actively evolving.

Note on display behavior

As with many sensor-based tuning solutions, active tuning typically results in manipulated or frozen display values ​​at higher speeds. This is not a defect, but rather part of the operating principle.
