This section categorizes the most important tuning products by engine platform. This allows you to more quickly identify which solutions are generally compatible with your system.

A) Bosch e-bike motors

At Bosch, the precise system logic especially important. The crucial distinction is between Gen1 to Gen4 / BES1-BES2, Smart System / BES3, Rim magnet and Gen5.

¹ EBT Unlock Key Applies to Bosch Gen1–Gen4, excluding HMI and Smart System.

² For Gen2/Gen3 with newer DU firmware, Gen4/newer Bosch solutions are often considered in practice.

B) Yamaha Powerdrive E-bike motors

Features

How comprehensive is the tuning product? Does it only remove the speed limiter, or does it offer additional settings, parameters, activation logic, or display options?

Note: Every tuning modification primarily removes or shifts the speed limit. The difference lies in the additional benefits: license code solutions like EBT Unlock Key or EBTsmart Unlock Key They work very differently than classic modules. How easy is the installation of the tuning kit? Are any tools required? Special tools? How long does the installation take?

Note: License code solutions such as the EBT Unlock Key EBTsmart Unlock Key or EBTsmart Unlock Key do not require a traditional engine installation. Badass Box is particularly easy as an external solution. Classic modules such as RedPed, VOLspeed, PearTune, SpeedBox Depending on the engine, MBIQ or other systems require access to the engine compartment or sensors. Dongle solutions like Sx2 or Splug lie in between.

Invisible after installation

Is the tuning visible from the outside after installation?

Note: External boxes are visible, internal modules usually are not. License code solutions are the most discreet because no traditional tuning box is mounted on the bike.

Switch on / off while driving

Can the tuning be switched on and off while driving or touring?

Note: Many modules are controlled via display buttons, app, or system logic. External boxes or dongles can often only be removed or reconnected by briefly stopping the vehicle. License code solutions are not a "drive-on switch" system in the traditional sense.

No more tuning module on the bike

Is it possible to return an e-bike to a state that doesn't require a traditional tuning module while on the go?

Note: Badass Box Dongles have advantages here because they can be physically removed. With traditional internal modules, the tuning product remains installed in the system. License code solutions do not have a traditional, visible tuning module.

Correct display km and km/h

Does the tuning provide correct speed and distance readings while driving?

Note: This depends heavily on the engine and the tuning principle. Browser-based license code solutions like the EBTsmart Unlock Key at 32 km/h or module-based systems with sophisticated signal processing are particularly noteworthy. External boxes and some classic signal manipulations, on the other hand, often show reduced or distorted values.
