The latest and best version of the Badass Box especially for e-bikes with Impulse Mid-engines, such as those used in Kalkhoff e-bikes. This tuning tool completely removes the 25 km/h speed limit. In contrast to the previous version, the Badass Box 3.4, the new Badass Box 4 offers a significantly longer range (7.000 km instead of 6.000 km), and it can be installed much faster with just one hand. Furthermore, the housing is not only significantly more robust but also much slimmer, eliminating the need for adapters during installation. Thanks to the patented snap-on lock, attaching and detaching the box is faster than ever before.
Tuning in seconds
The tuning can be activated within seconds by pressing the Badass Box 4 and move the spoke magnet slightly (thanks to the included tool-free screw, you don't need any tools). You can undo the tuning just as quickly by removing the box and pushing the magnet back to its original position – and the e-bike is back to its original condition!
Functionality
Once plugged in, the box transmits a modified signal, allowing the e-bike's preset speed limit to be exceeded. This works completely contactlessly and without directly interfering with the motor electronics or software, so the motor cannot be damaged under any circumstances.
Please note: Due to the aforementioned functionality, the e-bike display will no longer show the correct speed when tuning is active (this also applies to values derived from it). We recommend using GPS-enabled additional devices (smartphone, bike computer, etc.) to determine the correct speed.
Very long range with only 1 battery
Thanks to a specially developed & patented field amplification technology and the new AAA battery, which replaces the CR2 battery of the previous model, the service life of the Badass Box 4 higher than ever before: The battery only needs to be replaced after approximately 7000 kilometers or after one year (due to battery discharge). Of course, you can replace the battery at any time, without any tools. Suitable AAA batteries are readily available in stores.
Badass Box 4 Impulse - Installation
The installation of the Badass Box is simple, the engine does not have to be opened. Thanks to the new design, the installation and use of the Badass Box Simpler than ever before. The housing has been completely redesigned and made significantly slimmer (the sensor thickness is now just 3 mm), eliminating the need for tight installation situations. A cumbersome adapter is no longer required.
You have to Badass Box 4 simply over the Impulse-Attach the speed sensor to the rear wheel (you'll find the speed sensor on the chainstay of your e-bike, see image). Once the snap lock clicks into place, the box is securely adjusted. Additional security with cable ties is also possible.
We recommend replacing the spoke magnet screw with the included tool-free screw during initial installation. This allows you to reposition the magnet in the future without the need for any tools. After installing the Badass Box To access the sensor, the spoke magnet must be moved toward the housing edge, toward the snap lock. If the spoke magnet should touch the box, you must position the magnet as close to the box as possible and rotate it 90° – that's it, the tuning is activated, and the 25 km/h speed limit has been lifted.
To cancel the tuning, you must Badass Box Simply remove it and return the spoke magnet to its original position. Afterward, the e-bike will have its original handling characteristics back (motor support up to 25 km/h).
Since the O-ring of the previous version has been replaced by the patented snap closure, the Badass Box 4 plug and unplug even faster than ever before.
For better protection against moisture and mechanical stress, the electronics of the Badass Box glued into the housing with a special casting compound and completely sealed. Incidentally, each Badass Box tested for correct function before and after casting.

Badass Box for KalkhoffImpulse - Compatibility
All e-bikes with Impulse Mid-engines (i.e. Impulse 1.0 Impulse 2.0 Impulse EVO...), so also compatible with Kalkhoff-Impulse 2.3 etc
To install an E-Bike tuning chip in your E-Bike it is sometimes special tools necessary. Please check previously whether you have to open the engine compartment to access the motor connectors. This is especially true for products from the Modules, Kit, Dongle and Sensor.
Normally (but not always) opening the engine compartment requires loosening the crank. To do this, you will need a Crank puller. Some engines also have a Spider Tool This is important for opening the lock ring on the chainring - because the chainring must be loosened here so that the motor cover can be removed to access the inside of the motor. If you want to replace the chainring (wear, change the gear ratio), you often need a Spider Tool. The necessary special tools can also be found in our shop. To remove the engine cover, you usually need a Torx or Allen key. For installing the modules, appropriate Pliers from the electronics sector.
Do you decide not for a tuning solution that you have to install in the engine compartment (Box, Software), there is no need for any tools. In our Guide you will find further tips.

Important information on tuning measures for e-bikes and e-scooters
We expressly point out that any modification to e-bikes and e-scooters – whether through hardware tuning (e.g. tuning chips, dongles, sensor adapters) or software tuning (e.g. apps, programs or USB tools) – can have consequences.
Tuning measures on e-bikes and e-scooters mean that they are no longer permitted for use on public roads as defined by the StVZO (Road Traffic Licensing Regulations). Legal use is therefore only possible on private property or - if permitted - in competitions. Riding an e-bike or e-scooter modified by tuning measures on public roads can lead to criminal liability for driving without a license (Section 21 of the Road Traffic Act) and driving without insurance (Section 6 of the PflVG). Tuning measures on e-bikes can lead to the loss of warranty rights and manufacturer guarantees. Furthermore, tuning measures can lead to the loss of insurance coverage and benefits from accident victim assistance in the event of an accident. The e-bike (or e-scooter) modified by tuning measures is subject to additional stress due to the higher speed, which can lead to safety risks.
