Only the left sensor is compatible. If your e-bike is equipped with the sensor shown on the right, you will need the Badass Box 4 for Shimano 2020.
The optimized and in many ways improved version of the Badass Box for e-bikes with Shimano motors. The Badass Box 4 removes the 25 km/h speed limit of the Shimano drivetrain, allowing you to ride much faster with full motor support. After installation, thanks to a new snap-on mechanism, the box can be quickly attached or removed with just one hand, enabling or disabling tuning in a snap. Badass Box 4, the e-bike is back in its original condition.
The Badass Box 4 works by transmitting a modified signal - contact-free and without electrical connection to the engine - or without interfering with the engine electronics (or engine software) - this in turn makes it possible to exceed the speed limit.
Please note: If the Badass Box 4 is active, the e-bike display will no longer show the correct speed (this also applies to values derived from it). To record precise riding data, we therefore recommend additional devices with the appropriate GPS function (smartphone, bike computer, etc.).
The energy supply of the Badass Box 4 is powered by a powerful AAA battery. This only needs to be replaced after a mileage of over 7000 km or after one year (due to battery discharge). You can replace it yourself on-site at any time, without any tools.
By day Badass Box 4 Electrics are glued and sealed into the housing with a special casting compound, making them more robust and less sensitive to moisture than any other Badass Box Variants before.
Each BadassBox 4 is thoroughly tested for correct function before and after casting.
The advantages of the new BadassBox 4 over the previous BadassBox Type 3.3:
- Completely redesigned, slimmer housing with patented snap-on closure ensures even faster installation and removal (the O-ring from the previous version is no longer present). The slimmer housing makes installation even easier.
- Increased range of over 7.000 km thanks to the new AAA battery and the specially developed and patented FEET (Field Enhancement & Elimination Technology). If replacement is required, the AAA battery is also significantly more affordable and easier to obtain than the previous CR2 battery.
- Even more robust thanks to special encapsulation compound from the automotive industry. Better protection against moisture and mechanical stress than ever before.
- At the customer's request, an additional optional fastening security system using cable ties on the snap fastener was provided.
The Badass Box 4 is a quality product, developed and manufactured in Germany.
Badass Box for e-bikes with integrated sensor in the swing arm:
You need: a) Badass Box, b) Cable tie adapter (universal adapter) and c) Magnet (spoke magnet) (already in the Badass Box 4 included) and some manual skills.
Badass Box 4 – Assembly
The installation of this tuning tool is quite simple. The motor does not require any extensive opening and the e-bike cannot be damaged. Badass Box 4 simply needs to be wound over the Shimano speed sensor next to the rear wheel. After the snap lock engages, the Badass Box securely attached to the speed sensor. If desired, you can further secure the box with a cable tie.
Please note that the original magnet must be replaced with the supplied spoke magnet during initial installation. Badass Box is not attached, this spoke magnet works exactly like the original magnet.
Nachdem die Badass Box has been placed on the sensor, you need to move the spoke magnet towards the edge of the housing in the direction of the snap lock – that's it!
If you are the Badass Box Once you've removed it, you'll need to return the spoke magnet to its original position. Thanks to the tool-free screw, this can be done easily and without tools at any time.
Badass Box 4 – Compatibility
- All e-bikes with Shimano mid-engines (E6000 & E8000).

- The new version supports mechanical and electronic gearshifts (Di2), except Nexus Di2 hub gears.
To install an E-Bike tuning chip in your E-Bike it is sometimes special tools necessary. Please check previously whether you have to open the engine compartment to access the motor connectors. This is especially true for products from the Modules, Kit, Dongle and Sensor.
Normally (but not always) opening the engine compartment requires loosening the crank. To do this, you will need a Crank puller. Some engines also have a Spider Tool This is important for opening the lock ring on the chainring - because the chainring must be loosened here so that the motor cover can be removed to access the inside of the motor. If you want to replace the chainring (wear, change the gear ratio), you often need a Spider Tool. The necessary special tools can also be found in our shop. To remove the engine cover, you usually need a Torx or Allen key. For installing the modules, appropriate Pliers from the electronics sector.
Do you decide not for a tuning solution that you have to install in the engine compartment (Box, Software), there is no need for any tools. In our Guide you will find further tips.

Important information on tuning measures for e-bikes and e-scooters
We expressly point out that any modification to e-bikes and e-scooters – whether through hardware tuning (e.g. tuning chips, dongles, sensor adapters) or software tuning (e.g. apps, programs or USB tools) – can have consequences.
Tuning measures on e-bikes and e-scooters mean that they are no longer permitted for use on public roads as defined by the StVZO (Road Traffic Licensing Regulations). Legal use is therefore only possible on private property or - if permitted - in competitions. Riding an e-bike or e-scooter modified by tuning measures on public roads can lead to criminal liability for driving without a license (Section 21 of the Road Traffic Act) and driving without insurance (Section 6 of the PflVG). Tuning measures on e-bikes can lead to the loss of warranty rights and manufacturer guarantees. Furthermore, tuning measures can lead to the loss of insurance coverage and benefits from accident victim assistance in the event of an accident. The e-bike (or e-scooter) modified by tuning measures is subject to additional stress due to the higher speed, which can lead to safety risks.
