This is a simple but highly effective tuning tool specifically for Shimano e-bikes with a Shimano sensor integrated in the dropout SM-DUE11 (see figure below). The Badass Box 4 completely removes the 25 km/h speed limit, allowing you to finally utilize the full potential of powerful Shimano drives. This tuning tool doesn't offer any additional features. With the Badss Box 4, the annoying 25 km/h speed limit on your Shimano e-bike is finally a thing of the past – and you can ride much faster with full motor support.
The Badass Box 4 must be attached to the chainstay of the Shimano e-bike, together with the screwed-on speed sensor.

Before ordering, you should also check whether the cable of your sensor can be pulled out far enough from the dropout to allow the sensor to be attached to the chainstay in front of the brake disc. Only then can the sensor be installed together with the Badass Box 4 use.
Legal status can be restored
After connecting the wiring, the tuning can be switched on and off by plugging and unplugging the box. You can restore the legal (untuned) state of your e-bike by Badass Box and mount the Shimano sensor on the chainstay, or the original installation situation in the dropout and align the spoke magnet to it again.
More robust than ever before
The electrics of the Badass Box 4 is glued and sealed into the housing with a special casting compound from the automotive industry, making the box more robust and less sensitive to moisture than any other Badass Box Variants before.
Each Badass Box 4 is thoroughly tested for correct function before and after casting.
How does it work Badass Box 4 for Shimano 2020?
After installation, the Badass Box 4 sends a modified signal to the motor, thereby overriding or canceling the 25 km/h speed limit. This occurs contactlessly, meaning there is no electrical connection to the motor and no interference with the motor electronics. This eliminates the risk of damage.
Please keep in mind:
Due to this special operating principle, your e-bike's display will no longer show the correct current speed when tuning is active (= box plugged in), and this also applies to any values derived from it. We therefore recommend using GPS-enabled additional devices such as your smartphone to record the actual data. You can do this using special "brackets“ directly to your handlebars so that you always have an optimal view of all driving data.
The Badass Box 4 is powered by an included AAA battery. Thanks to the specially developed and patented FEET (Field Enhancement & Elimination Technology), you can go a long way on a single battery. If the battery runs out, it can be easily replaced at any time without the need for tools. Suitable replacement batteries are available almost everywhere. We recommend replacing the battery once a year at the start of the season.
Installation Guide:
Installation doesn't require any complicated opening of the engine, and there's no risk of damage. Here's how to proceed:
You'll find the integrated Shimano sensor near the dropout. To access the sensor, you'll need to remove the rear wheel. Locate the integrated sensor in the dropout and loosen the screws securing the sensor.:
Now place the sensor in the designated recess on the Badass Box:
Then fix the sensor to the Badass Box (You will need a 2 mm Allen key). Now you can Badass Box Mount it together with the sensor to the chainstay using the supplied cable tie.
During initial installation, you must install the included spoke magnet instead of the original one. This spoke magnet works exactly like the original magnet, but it is necessary for the patented field amplification to work when the Badass Box is set up.
Then reinstall the rear wheel and screw the supplied spoke magnet onto a spoke so that the magnet points to the Badass Box You have to place the spoke magnet next to the Badass Box Align. To check the position of the magnet on the e-bike while stationary, lift the rear of the bike. Then turn the rear wheel (not the cranks!) and let the bike spin. Check your e-bike's speedometer or app: The displayed speed should be steady and decrease slowly as the rear wheel coasts.
If the spoke magnet Badass Box touch, you must place the spoke magnet as close as possible to the Badass Box and turn it 90°. That's it – your e-bike is now tuned!
If you are the Badass Box If you remove it again and mount the Shimano sensor on the chainstay, or the original installation situation in the dropout and align the spoke magnet to it, the e-bike is returned to its untuned (legal) state.
Important:

If the sensor integrated into the dropout has the shape of this sensor, then it is the older SM-DUE10 sensor from Shimano. In this case, you will need the Badass Box 4 Shimano X-Set:
If the Shimano SM-DUE10 sensor shown is easily accessible on the chainstay of your e-bike, you only need the usual Badass Box 4 for Shimano.
To install an E-Bike tuning chip in your E-Bike it is sometimes special tools necessary. Please check previously whether you have to open the engine compartment to access the motor connectors. This is especially true for products from the Modules, Kit, Dongle and Sensor.
Normally (but not always) opening the engine compartment requires loosening the crank. To do this, you will need a Crank puller. Some engines also have a Spider Tool This is important for opening the lock ring on the chainring - because the chainring must be loosened here so that the motor cover can be removed to access the inside of the motor. If you want to replace the chainring (wear, change the gear ratio), you often need a Spider Tool. The necessary special tools can also be found in our shop. To remove the engine cover, you usually need a Torx or Allen key. For installing the modules, appropriate Pliers from the electronics sector.
Do you decide not for a tuning solution that you have to install in the engine compartment (Box, Software), there is no need for any tools. In our Guide you will find further tips.

Important information on tuning measures for e-bikes and e-scooters
We expressly point out that any modification to e-bikes and e-scooters – whether through hardware tuning (e.g. tuning chips, dongles, sensor adapters) or software tuning (e.g. apps, programs or USB tools) – can have consequences.
Tuning measures on e-bikes and e-scooters mean that they are no longer permitted for use on public roads as defined by the StVZO (Road Traffic Licensing Regulations). Legal use is therefore only possible on private property or - if permitted - in competitions. Riding an e-bike or e-scooter modified by tuning measures on public roads can lead to criminal liability for driving without a license (Section 21 of the Road Traffic Act) and driving without insurance (Section 6 of the PflVG). Tuning measures on e-bikes can lead to the loss of warranty rights and manufacturer guarantees. Furthermore, tuning measures can lead to the loss of insurance coverage and benefits from accident victim assistance in the event of an accident. The e-bike (or e-scooter) modified by tuning measures is subject to additional stress due to the higher speed, which can lead to safety risks.
