A tuning kit specifically for Trek e-bikes with Bosch mid-mounted motors and a G4 speed sensor integrated into the dropout (see below for the matching sensor). The kit includes the Badass Box 4 and all parts necessary for assembly.
The Badass Box 4 is a proven tuning tool that completely removes the 25 km/h speed limit on Bosch e-bike motors. This allows you to utilize the full potential of your Bosch drive and ride much faster with full motor support. This is what's known as contactless tuning – meaning there's no electrical connection to the motor, eliminating the risk of damage to the drive.
The tuning works by Badass Box 4, after installation and connection, a modified signal is sent to the motor. This overrides or cancels the preset 25 km/h limit – allowing you to ride much faster with full motor support.
Important note: Due to this operating principle, the e-bike display will show an incorrect speed when tuning is active (=box plugged in), as will any derived values. We recommend using GPS-based devices such as smartphones to determine your actual speed and correct route. You can attach these directly to your e-bike's handlebars. If necessary, the tuning tool can be removed at any time and the e-bike can be returned to its (legal) original condition.
The energy supply of the Badass Box 4 is powered by a long-range AAA battery (included). Suitable replacement batteries are readily available at low cost in stores almost everywhere. Replacing them is easy at any time; no tools are even required. We recommend replacing the battery once a year at the start of the season.
Tuning can be switched on and off
Once the installation and wiring are complete, you can turn the tuning on and off at any time by plugging and unplugging the box and moving the spoke magnet. Thanks to a patented snap lock and the included spoke magnet with a lobe screw, this is now even faster and easier than ever before.
Please note that the installation of the Badass Box requires a small conversion – so a little bit of manual work is required here. Therefore, please read the installation instructions below before using the Badass Box 4 for Bosch G4 set.

installation Guide
You'll find the integrated G4 Speed Sensor near the dropout of your e-bike. To access the sensor, the rear wheel must be removed:
Included in the delivery is a lens flange screw with which you can screw the G4 Speed Sensor to the G4 adapter (you will need a 2,5 mm Allen key):
Optionally, a custom-cut self-adhesive foam pad is included. You can attach this pad to the G4 adapter so you can attach it to the swingarm without risking scratches:
Now you have to attach the G4 adapter including the screwed-on G4 speed sensor to a suitable place on the swing arm using the enclosed cable tie, where it is possible to Badass Box to slide onto the adapter.
Now you have to reinstall the rear wheel and the Badass Box Slide it onto the adapter until it clicks into place:
Now you just have to mount the spoke magnet and attach it to the edge of the Badass Box Align the housing - that's it, your e-bike is tuned!

To install an E-Bike tuning chip in your E-Bike it is sometimes special tools necessary. Please check previously whether you have to open the engine compartment to access the motor connectors. This is especially true for products from the Modules, Kit, Dongle and Sensor.
Normally (but not always) opening the engine compartment requires loosening the crank. To do this, you will need a Crank puller. Some engines also have a Spider Tool This is important for opening the lock ring on the chainring - because the chainring must be loosened here so that the motor cover can be removed to access the inside of the motor. If you want to replace the chainring (wear, change the gear ratio), you often need a Spider Tool. The necessary special tools can also be found in our shop. To remove the engine cover, you usually need a Torx or Allen key. For installing the modules, appropriate Pliers from the electronics sector.
Do you decide not for a tuning solution that you have to install in the engine compartment (Box, Software), there is no need for any tools. In our Guide you will find further tips.

Important information on tuning measures for e-bikes and e-scooters
We expressly point out that any modification to e-bikes and e-scooters – whether through hardware tuning (e.g. tuning chips, dongles, sensor adapters) or software tuning (e.g. apps, programs or USB tools) – can have consequences.
Tuning measures on e-bikes and e-scooters mean that they are no longer permitted for use on public roads as defined by the StVZO (Road Traffic Licensing Regulations). Legal use is therefore only possible on private property or - if permitted - in competitions. Riding an e-bike or e-scooter modified by tuning measures on public roads can lead to criminal liability for driving without a license (Section 21 of the Road Traffic Act) and driving without insurance (Section 6 of the PflVG). Tuning measures on e-bikes can lead to the loss of warranty rights and manufacturer guarantees. Furthermore, tuning measures can lead to the loss of insurance coverage and benefits from accident victim assistance in the event of an accident. The e-bike (or e-scooter) modified by tuning measures is subject to additional stress due to the higher speed, which can lead to safety risks.
