MBIQ-P Plug-In Solution for Shimano Steps E5xxx - E8xxx
An ingenious plug-in solution that makes it incredibly easy to remove the 25 km/h speed limit on Shimano Steps e-bike motors. This allows you to utilize the full potential of Shimano drives, allowing you to ride much faster with full motor support. This tuning tool doesn't have any other advanced functions. A special feature of this MBIQ-P is that it is probably the smallest tuning solution for Shimano e-bikes ever. The tool is extremely compact and therefore requires very little space. This makes installation even easier.
MBIQ-P Plug-In: Tuning tool for e-bikes with Shimano Steps E5xxx - E8xxx mid-drive motors, also compatible with Di2
Once connected, the MBIQ-P will analyze and process the current speed profile and (if tuning is active) output manipulated values. This circumvents and removes the 25 km/h speed limit. Incidentally, the manipulated values do not affect the engine software's evaluation.
Please note that due to this operating principle, when tuning is switched on, the correct speed is no longer displayed above approx. 22 km/h.
Can be switched on and off
The MBIQ-P is customer-programmable, without the need for additional devices such as PCs or smartphones. This allows you to turn the tuning on or off.
Programming is done using specific wheel movements when starting up the Shimano Steps e-bike. This allows you to set three different operating modes:
- Mode 1: Tuning permanently activated (25 km/h speed limit is lifted, no correct speed display from approx. 22 km/h).
- Mode 2: Tuning permanently deactivated (motor support as normal up to 25 km/h, correct speed display).
- Mode 3: Tuning based on power-on condition (via magnet). In this mode, you can specify whether tuning should be active or not when turning on the e-bike. To activate tuning, the magnet must be in front of the sensor for at least 4-5 seconds during power-up; otherwise, tuning remains inactive.
Simple installation
Since the MBIQ-P is a plug-in solution, connecting the tool is easy. The tuning simply needs to be inserted between the speed sensor and the engine control unit. Compatible connectors, identical to those of the existing sensor cable, ensure an optimal connection.
No additional power supply/battery is required to operate the MBIQ-P (the power supply is provided passively via the sensor path).
If you want to undo the tuning, you can remove the MBIQ-P at any time and restore the e-bike to its original condition.
The MBIQ-P is microcontroller-based and compatible with all common motor manufacturers' firmwares. The tuning has been successfully tested on Shimano e-bike drives up to firmware version 4.9.0.

Tools
To install an E-Bike tuning chip in your E-Bike it is sometimes special tools necessary. Please check previously whether you have to open the engine compartment to access the motor connectors. This is especially true for products from the Modules, Kit, Dongle and Sensor.
Normally (but not always) opening the engine compartment requires loosening the crank. To do this, you will need a Crank puller. Some engines also have a Spider Tool This is important for opening the lock ring on the chainring - because the chainring must be loosened here so that the motor cover can be removed to access the inside of the motor. If you want to replace the chainring (wear, change the gear ratio), you often need a Spider Tool. The necessary special tools can also be found in our shop. To remove the engine cover, you usually need a Torx or Allen key. For installing the modules, appropriate Pliers from the electronics sector.
Do you decide not for a tuning solution that you have to install in the engine compartment (Box, Software), there is no need for any tools. In our Guide you will find further tips.

Important information on tuning measures for e-bikes and e-scooters
We expressly point out that any modification to e-bikes and e-scooters – whether through hardware tuning (e.g. tuning chips, dongles, sensor adapters) or software tuning (e.g. apps, programs or USB tools) – can have consequences.
Tuning measures on e-bikes and e-scooters mean that they are no longer permitted for use on public roads as defined by the StVZO (Road Traffic Licensing Regulations). Legal use is therefore only possible on private property or - if permitted - in competitions. Riding an e-bike or e-scooter modified by tuning measures on public roads can lead to criminal liability for driving without a license (Section 21 of the Road Traffic Act) and driving without insurance (Section 6 of the PflVG). Tuning measures on e-bikes can lead to the loss of warranty rights and manufacturer guarantees. Furthermore, tuning measures can lead to the loss of insurance coverage and benefits from accident victim assistance in the event of an accident. The e-bike (or e-scooter) modified by tuning measures is subject to additional stress due to the higher speed, which can lead to safety risks.
