MBIQ-S for Shimano Steps / EP8 / EP800 mid-drive motors
A microcontroller-based tuning sensor for Shimano Steps and Shimano EP8 e-bike motors. This tuning tool completely removes the 25 km/h motor support limit, allowing you to finally utilize the full potential of powerful Shimano drives. For installation, the e-bike's speed sensor must be replaced with the MBIQ-S.
This tuning tool is completely maintenance-free and does not require its own battery.
Functionality
Once connected, the MBIQ-S will analyze the current speed profile and—if tuning is active—transmit manipulated values. Speeds above 25 km/h are blocked for the engine firmware, resulting in the removal of the speed limit.
Important: Due to this functional principle, the e-bike display – with active tuning – will only show manipulated values from a speed of 22 km/h to 25 km/h (the displayed speed will then always be ≤ 25 km/h, even if you are actually riding faster).
Three operating modes programmable
The MBIQ-S offers three operating modes, allowing tuning to be switched on and off. Programming is done via specific wheel movements when turning on the e-bike. The selected operating mode is indicated by different speed values on the display. The following operating modes can be selected:
- Tuning permanently activated (the speed limit is permanently removed, from approx. 22-25 km/h the displayed speed no longer corresponds to the real speed).
- Tuning permanently deactivated (the speed limit is not removed, motor support up to 25 km/h with real speed display).
- Activation after power-on condition: To activate the tuning, the magnet must be in front of the sensor for at least 4 seconds during boot-up, otherwise the tuning is deactivated.
Mounting
This tuning tool is a replacement sensor, meaning the e-bike's existing sensor must be replaced with the MBIQ-S. Since the tuning tool is equipped with compatible connectors, installation is relatively easy. Depending on the model, however, it may be necessary to remove the motor to pull out the required sensor cable. The MBIQ-S must also be pulled through the frame for installation.
Since the MBIQ-S looks very similar to the original sensor, the bike's appearance is barely altered. Tip: Simply keep the original sensor so you can restore your bike to its original condition if necessary.
MBIQ-S for Shimano Steps / EP800 / EP8 mid-drive motors – Compatibility
This tuning tool is compatible with the following Shimano e-bike mid-engines:
EP8 variant SS300 or SS301 (tested up to FW 4.1.5)
Also compatible with DI2!
Important: Only compatible with EP-8(00) etc. - Not compatible with EP-801!
This tuning tool is compatible with all common Shimano motor firmwares / the evaluation of the motor software is not affected by the manipulated values.
Please specify the desired compatibility when ordering:

Tools
To install an E-Bike tuning chip in your E-Bike it is sometimes special tools necessary. Please check previously whether you have to open the engine compartment to access the motor connectors. This is especially true for products from the Modules, Kit, Dongle and Sensor.
Normally (but not always) opening the engine compartment requires loosening the crank. To do this, you will need a Crank puller. Some engines also have a Spider Tool This is important for opening the lock ring on the chainring - because the chainring must be loosened here so that the motor cover can be removed to access the inside of the motor. If you want to replace the chainring (wear, change the gear ratio), you often need a Spider Tool. The necessary special tools can also be found in our shop. To remove the engine cover, you usually need a Torx or Allen key. For installing the modules, appropriate Pliers from the electronics sector.
Do you decide not for a tuning solution that you have to install in the engine compartment (Box, Software), there is no need for any tools. In our Guide you will find further tips.

Important information on tuning measures for e-bikes and e-scooters
We expressly point out that any modification to e-bikes and e-scooters – whether through hardware tuning (e.g. tuning chips, dongles, sensor adapters) or software tuning (e.g. apps, programs or USB tools) – can have consequences.
Tuning measures on e-bikes and e-scooters mean that they are no longer permitted for use on public roads as defined by the StVZO (Road Traffic Licensing Regulations). Legal use is therefore only possible on private property or - if permitted - in competitions. Riding an e-bike or e-scooter modified by tuning measures on public roads can lead to criminal liability for driving without a license (Section 21 of the Road Traffic Act) and driving without insurance (Section 6 of the PflVG). Tuning measures on e-bikes can lead to the loss of warranty rights and manufacturer guarantees. Furthermore, tuning measures can lead to the loss of insurance coverage and benefits from accident victim assistance in the event of an accident. The e-bike (or e-scooter) modified by tuning measures is subject to additional stress due to the higher speed, which can lead to safety risks.
