RedPed 2s for Shimano EP8 / EP800

With the RedPed 2s tuning module allows you to get the most out of e-bikes with Shimano EP8 motors.

The RedPed 2s module is one of the most comprehensive tuning tools for e-bikes with Shimano EP8 drives. The module is compatible with the RedPed 2 app, so there are a wide variety of optimization options available.

The core function of the RedPed 2s is the removal of the 25 km/h speed limit, and numerous other settings can be configured via the app, such as individually setting the maximum speed or setting a custom activation code. Furthermore, the app can be used to display many useful driving parameters while on the go, including actual speed and distance traveled.

Compared to the previous model, the RedPed 2 Plus, offers that RedPed 2s a whole series of interesting improvements, e.g. for the first time the real speed can now be read in the e-bike display (via the second digit and the decimal place of the display).

Note: After installation, the RedPed can be activated/deactivated via the app as well as via the control buttons on the e-bike. not necessary to take your smartphone with you on every trip.

RedPed App - The E-Bike Tuning App:

Here are the new features of RedPed 2s compared to the previous RedPed 2 Plus:

- Actual speed can be read as a decimal number on the e-bike display (previously only half of the actual speed was displayed): From a speed of 22 km/h, the current speed is displayed via the second digit and the decimal place of the display (a displayed speed of 23,5 km/h would therefore correspond to an actual speed of 35 km/h, etc.).

-Very precise adjustment of the wheel circumference via the AUTO function. Please note that correct adjustment is important for an accurate speedometer reading.

-Mountain Mode for Di2 circuits: Since the RedPed If the split speed generated by the module always lags behind one wheel revolution, error W2 may occur on e-mountain bikes with Di011 gears at low speeds. The new function synchronizes the speed of the e-bike and the RedPeds (this can cause small jumps in the speed display of the e-bike display).

-The tracking time is now calculated automatically, even without having to enter the mileage.

-Easier reset of the module: Turn on the e-bike and plug the included reset cable into the reset connector. After 20 seconds, the RedPed Reset the module. Then simply remove the cable again.

RedPed 2s for Shimano EP8 / EP800 - Features

-Removal of the 25 km/h speed limit, allowing much faster driving with full motor assistance.

-Set Max Speed: The maximum supported speed can be set to an individual value via the app, from 15 km/h to 45 km/h (45 km/h is the theoretical maximum speed, the actual achievable speed depends on various factors, e.g. chainring and motor).

-Display of detailed driving parameters via the app (see below).

Tuning can be turned on and off via the app or using the light button. When activated using the light button, you can specify how often the light needs to be turned on and off to activate the tuning (press 0-20 times). The counter function shows how many times the light has already been turned on and off.

-Use the app to set whether the tuning should be active for just one ride or always.

-Tuning Timer: With this function, the tuning is deactivated after a self-set time as soon as the bike has come to a standstill (between 10 and 180 seconds).

-"Visibility": Set how long the module should be visible in the app after the e-bike is turned on. This can prevent unauthorized access by third parties.

-"Combination for visibility": Here you can set how often the light must be switched on and off to make the module visible.

-"Speed split at": Sets how the speed should be split (10-24 km/h). The higher the value, the better. However, if it's set too high, assistance will stop before the maximum speed is reached. In this case, the set value must be reduced again.

-Enter wheel diameter: By specifying the exact wheel diameter, an exact speed display as a decimal number in the e-bike display is guaranteed (AUTO function).

-Show real speed in the display as a decimal number (yes / no).

-Turn mountain mode on and off (see above).

-Lag: This value shows how many KM the engine is missing due to dividing the speed.

-Optional correct mileage after re-removal of the module.

Data display via app

RedPed The app not only lets you configure the tuning module settings, it can also display numerous useful driving parameters on the go. You can customize the display according to your personal preferences—for example, you can hide values or change the colors of columns and rows, etc. You can also change the font size in the settings (Android) or zoom in on the speedometer (iPhone).

Here are the displayed driving parameters; these are always real values:

  • Tuning Status (On/Off)
  • Current speed
  • Maximum speed
  • Drive time
  • Average speed
  • distance traveled
  • Mileage

firmware Update

If necessary, a firmware update for the RedPed 2s module, so that the tuning can be updated again and again. To do so, you have to open the menu in the app and click on "Firmware Update". The "RedPed Version" shows the current firmware. The "Image Version" is the latest version. If this is higher than the "RedPed Version," the "Start Update" button will appear. As soon as you press the button, the update will begin. After the update, the module will restart, retaining all settings. The e-bike must not be turned off during the update.

Installation & Functionality

The RedPed The 2s module must be connected between the speed sensor and the motor (to access the required connectors, the motor's protective cover must be temporarily removed). In most cases, the module can be placed in the motor's connection area (sometimes in the frame tube). Further information can be found in the user manual. RedPed Module required no own battery; power is supplied via a free display socket.

The module's electronics have been coated with a layer of varnish and are also protected by a shrink tube with internal adhesive.

Once installed, the module measures the actual speed and generates its own speed signal for the engine control unit. This generates a lower speed, essentially outsmarting the 25 km/h speed limit. This allows for much faster driving with full engine support.

You can find installation and operating instructions here.

Installing an e-bike tuning chip in your e-bike may require special tools . Please check beforehand whether you need to open the motor compartment to access the motor's connectors. This applies particularly to products in the categories of modules , kits , dongles , and sensors.

Normally (but not always), opening the motor compartment requires loosening the crankset. For this, you'll need a crank puller . Some motors also require a spider tool to open the lockring on the chainring – the chainring needs to be loosened to remove the motor cover and access the motor's interior. If you want to replace the chainring (due to wear or to change the gear ratio), you'll often need a spider tool as well . You can find the necessary special tool in our shop. Finally, removing the motor cover usually requires a Torx or Allen wrench. For installing the modules, appropriate pliers from the electronics sector are suitable.

If you don't opt for a tuning solution that requires installation in the engine compartment ( such as a tuning box or software ), you won't need the necessary tools. You'll find further tips in our guide .

Important information on tuning measures for e-bikes and e-scooters

We expressly point out that any modification to e-bikes and e-scooters – whether through hardware tuning (e.g. tuning chips, dongles, sensor adapters) or software tuning (e.g. apps, programs or USB tools) – can have consequences.

Tuning measures on e-bikes and e-scooters mean that they are no longer permitted for use on public roads as defined by the StVZO (Road Traffic Licensing Regulations). Legal use is therefore only possible on private property or - if permitted - in competitions. Riding an e-bike or e-scooter modified by tuning measures on public roads can lead to criminal liability for driving without a license (Section 21 of the Road Traffic Act) and driving without insurance (Section 6 of the PflVG). Tuning measures on e-bikes can lead to the loss of warranty rights and manufacturer guarantees. Furthermore, tuning measures can lead to the loss of insurance coverage and benefits from accident victim assistance in the event of an accident. The e-bike (or e-scooter) modified by tuning measures is subject to additional stress due to the higher speed, which can lead to safety risks.
