This tuning tool for Bosch e-bikes impresses with its extremely wide range of functions, allowing you to optimize your vehicle in a variety of ways. RedPed 3 is a tuning module that must be permanently connected to the engine. The tuning settings can then be easily configured using the EBT app ("RedPed - E-Bike Tuning App”). The most important core function of the RedPed 3 is, of course, the removal of the speed limit, and the maximum motor support level can even be set to a value of your choosing. Another very practical feature is that you can set an activation code via the app, which allows you to turn the tuning on and off using the e-bike's control buttons. For this reason, it's not absolutely necessary to bring your smartphone with you on every bike ride. In principle, it's enough to configure the desired settings once.

Important: Please check whether you have a Bosch Smart System (BES3) This leads to an increase in incorrect orders. 

Important note, please note: The Bosch Gen4 e-bike drives (2020/2021 generation) are equipped with integrated anti-tuning software (this also applies to Bosch Gen2 & Gen3 drives from May 2019 with software version 1.8.4.0 or higher). RedPed The module is characterized by a very low susceptibility to errors, but in order to permanently avoid the anti-tuning software from hitting, we would like to strongly recommend the following tips:

1. Do not set the maximum assisted speed higher than 32-33 km/h.

2. If you drive long distances with the tuning activated, you should slow down a bit every now and then, at least for a short time.

If you follow these tips, detection by anti-tuning software is almost impossible. However, there can never be a 100% guarantee that the anti-tuning software won't detect it. There are even cases where corresponding error messages occur without any tuning at all.

If you wish, you can also set the maximum speed higher than 33 km/h (up to 45 km/h) via the app, but we strongly advise against this option! If errors occur due to setting the assistance speed too high, we cannot offer support, and an exchange is also excluded.

connectivity: The RedPed The app has the advantage of being able to display a wide range of parameters while on the go – even more than conventional Bosch displays can offer. Therefore, it makes sense to attach your phone to the handlebars while riding, for example, using a special smartphone mount.

The RedPed 3 module has all the features and benefits that were already available in the previous versions. However, there are now a few improvements that make the RedPed 3 to the best model of the entire RedPed There's probably no other tuning tool for Bosch e-bike motors that offers such a wide range of optimization options – with this module, you can truly get the most out of Bosch drives!

RedPed 3 – Functions & Features at a Glance

• Repeal of the speed limit.
• Set the maximum speed to a custom value between 15 and 33 km/h. Optionally, the maximum speed can be increased to up to 45 km/h (Note: With Bosch Gen4 drives, the maximum speed should not be set above 32 km/h, as this could trigger the integrated anti-tuning software).
• Set a custom activation code: The tuning can be turned on and off using the EBT app. Alternatively, you can also use the app to set a code that allows you to activate/deactivate the tuning using the control buttons on the e-bike.
• Even with active tuning, the e-bike display shows speed and distance traveled correctly.
• Even after removing the module, the total mileage is displayed correctly.
• Tuning activation: Set a key combination that allows you to turn the tuning on and off using the e-bike's controls. This means you no longer need a smartphone to activate/deactivate the tuning.
• "Speed ​​Offset": You can reduce the speed shown on the display to as little as -15 km/h. Example: If you set a value of -10 km/h and are traveling at a speed of (e.g.) 35 km/h, the display will only show a speed of 25 km/h, etc.
• “Visibility”: Here you can set how long the RedPed should be visible in the app after the e-bike has been switched on. This prevents unauthorized access to the module.
• "Troll Mode": In this mode, the e-bike shuts down after a user-defined time (10-60 seconds) or restarts if no smartphone connects to the module within the specified time. This feature isn't a true theft deterrent, but it can be used to annoy people who have access to the e-bike but aren't supposed to be riding it.
• “Workshop Mode”: If this mode is set, the CAN BUS data is not transmitted through the RedPed manipulated. Very practical if you need to take your e-bike to the workshop.
• “Split speed at”: Here you can set how the speed should be split.
• Set PIN to RedPed to protect against unauthorized access.
• Set module name.
• Wheel diameter can be entered.

Data display via app

The EBT app not only lets you set tuning settings, but also displays an unusually wide range of parameters. You can customize the displayed data to your own preferences (change the colors of certain values, hide values, etc.). Here's a selection of the most important data:

RedPed 3 for Bosch – New features compared to previous versions

• The module is even smaller.
• Lower power consumption.
• When using the SmartphoneHub or Cobi Display there are no more stutters.
• “Tuning Timer”: With this completely new function, tuning is automatically deactivated after a self-set time.
• “Unlock Max Speed”: When RedPed 3, the maximum assisted speed can normally be set between 15 and 32 km/h. The maximum speed can also be increased to 45 km/h, but this function must be activated separately via the app. This is because Bosch motors from Gen4 onwards are equipped with special anti-tuning software, and it cannot be ruled out that the tuning could be detected at maximum assisted speeds above 33 km/h. 

Please keep in mind: If you have a Bosch Gen4 motor or an older Bosch drive with anti-tuning detection (from software version of Drive Unit 1.8.4.0) and still unlock the maximum speed in the app to 45 km/h, you do so at your own risk. If the tampering is detected in this case (error 504), the manufacturer will no longer provide support.

RedPed 3 for Bosch – Installation & Functionality

The RedPed 3 is a module that must be connected between the engine and the speed sensor, as well as between the engine and the display. After installation, the module measures the actual speed and generates its own speed signal for the engine control unit. Since the module generates a lower speed, the preset speed limit of the engine is overridden. Due to this operating principle, the engine control unit will calculate various values, such as the total distance, incorrectly. However, the values ​​are RedPed corrected and transmitted to the display so that correct data continues to be shown.

Does your Bosch e-bike have a round plug (as shown here), you have the correct Tuning module selected. If your Bosch e-bike does not have either of these plugs, you either do NOT have a Bosch e-bike, or you have an e-bike with the old Gen1 drive (Classic Line).
