RedPed for Bosch Smart System (BES3)

A tuning module specifically for e-bikes with Bosch Smart System / BES3 drives. The tool is compatible with the practical RedPed App, which offers a very wide range of functions. Hardly any other tuning module offers such a wide range of setting and optimization options.

Absolutely unusual is the option Firmware updates on the module. This makes this tuning future-proof and can be continuously optimized. Other tuning options generally don't offer this option.

It is also worth mentioning that this RedPed Module is even already compatible with the very latest Bosch Smart System software updates. These updates caused major problems with tunings from other manufacturers, RedPed this is not the case.

Important note, please note: The Bosch Smart The system is equipped with an integrated anti-tuning software. RedPed The module is characterized by a very low susceptibility to errors, but in order to permanently avoid the anti-tuning software from hitting, we would like to strongly recommend the following tips:

1. Do not set the maximum assisted speed higher than 32-33 km/h.

2. If you drive long distances with the tuning activated, you should slow down a bit every now and then, at least for a short time.

If you follow these tips, detection by the anti-tuning software is almost impossible. However, there can never be a 100% guarantee that the anti-tuning software won't work. There are even cases where corresponding error messages occur without any tuning at all.

If you wish, you can also set the maximum speed higher than 33 km/h (up to 45 km/h) via the app, but we strongly advise against this option! If errors occur due to setting the assistance speed too high, we cannot offer support, and an exchange is also excluded.

RedPed for Bosch Smart System Features

-Repeal of the 25 km/h speed limit, which allows for significantly faster driving with full motor support.

-Set Max Speed: About the RedPed 2 app, the maximum assisted speed can be set to a desired value between 15 and 33 km/h. This limit was chosen because higher speeds could trigger the Bosch anti-tuning software.

-Optionally, there's also the option to increase the maximum speed to 45 km/h (to enable this, you must tap "Unlock" 10 times in the app before increasing the speed). However, this option is not recommended, as the Bosch system could detect the tuning at speeds above 33 km/h. Increasing the speed is therefore at your own risk. Attention: The increase to 45 km/h can not cannot be undone, not even with a reset.

-Real speed Readable as a decimal number in the e-bike display: From a speed of approx. 22 km/h, the real speed is displayed via the second digit and the decimal place of the display (a displayed speed of 23,2 km/h would therefore correspond to a real speed of 32 km/h, etc.). When MAX SPEED is reached, the speed in the e-bike display jumps to 25 km/h. Tip: About the RedPed You can also use the app to display the correct speed while driving.

-Tuning activation via app: With this module, tuning can only be activated via the app. You can set whether the tuning should be activated for just one ride or whether it should be permanently activated as soon as you turn on the e-bike.

-Display of detailed driving data about the RedPed App (see below).

-Tuning Timer: Here you can set the time after which the tuning turns off when you come to a standstill.

-Firmware updates possible, both on Android (RedPed 2 App) as well as iOS (RedPed app).

- "visibility": Here you can set how long the module should be visible in the app after the e-bike has been switched on. This can prevent unauthorized access.

- "Share speed at": Set how the speed should be divided (10-24 km/h). The higher the value, the better. However, if it is set too high, the assistance will stop before the maximum speed is reached. In this case, you will need to decrease the set value again.

-Enter wheel diameter: By specifying the exact wheel diameter, an accurate speed display as a decimal number on the e-bike display is ensured. The AUTO function can be used for the correct setting.

-Real speed on display display as a decimal number (yes / no).

-trailing: This value shows the distance the motor misses by dividing the speed.

At the RedPed for Bosch Smart System there is the possibility of firmware updates, either via the RedPed 2 app for Android, or the RedPed App for iOS.

To do so, simply open the menu when the app is connected to the RedPed module is connected and click on "Update Firmware". Under "RedPed The current firmware version is displayed under "Version." Under "Image Version," you can see the latest available firmware version. If the "Image Version" is higher, the "Start Update" button will appear. Simply click it to start the update.

 

Installation & Functionality

The RedPed is a tuning module that must be connected between the speed sensor and the motor (to gain access to the required connectors, the motor cover must be temporarily removed).

Four cables extend from the module, which must be connected to a) a display socket on the motor, b) the display plug, c) the motor's speed sensor socket, and d) the speed sensor plug. The fifth (short) cable is the reset plug, which does not need to be connected.

The module must usually be placed directly above the motor in the frame; it is secured using the supplied cable ties. Often, the module can also be placed directly in the connection area of ​​the motor. Depending on the model, however, there may be variations; no uniform installation location can be defined.

After installation, the RedPed The module measures the actual speed and generates its own speed signal for the engine control unit. This generates a lower speed, thus outsmarting the 25 km/h speed limit. This allows for much faster driving with full motor assistance.

Due to this operating principle, various values, such as the mileage, are calculated incorrectly by the engine control unit - but the correct values ​​can alternatively be obtained via the RedPed Read app.

The RedPed needed no own battery; since the power supply is provided via a free display socket.

The RedPed The module is robust because the electronics of the module are coated with a layer of varnish and protected by a shrink tube with internal adhesive.

This tuning tool is also compatible with the Bosch Smart System upgrade from April 2025 (sometimes referred to as version "15.10.1" or "15.13.1"). -Not compatible with ABS on the e-bike or with rim magnets, since the slot on the sensor is not activated here.

Important: The functionality of the RedPed Module can only be guaranteed up to the firmware version specified above. If the Bosch Smart If the engine system is updated to a higher firmware version after purchasing the module, the tuning may no longer work. The Bosch Anti-Tuning software may also be triggered. Therefore, please no Perform updates on the Bosch E-Bike (not even with the eBike Flow App, as this may then automatically install new engine software).

Does your Bosch E-Bike charging cable have a square plug (as shown above), you have the correct Tuning module selected (if the bike does not have ABS and a rim magnet). If your Bosch e-bike does not have either of these connectors, you either do NOT have a Bosch e-bike, or you have an e-bike with the old Gen1 drive (Classic Line).
