RedPed 3 for Giant

The RedPed 3 for Giant is a tuning module that offers an unusually large number of optimization options – it is probably the most comprehensive tuning tool for Giant E-bikes at all. The core function is, of course, the removal of the 25 km/h speed limit of the Giant Motors to name, but that RedPed 3 can do much more:

For example, there's the option to set the maximum assisted speed to a custom value (from 15-45 km/h). Other original additional features include "Speed Offset" and "Troll Mode."

All settings can be easily configured via the Redped app (Android / iOS). The app also has the advantage of displaying a huge range of interesting riding parameters and performance data. This way, you always have an overview – not just of your own Performance, but also about your e-bike.

By the way, it is not necessary to take your smartphone with you every time you go for a ride with your Giant E-bike. Tuning can also be activated/deactivated using your bike's control buttons. Basically, all you need to do is make the desired settings once using the app.

Tip: If you want to keep an eye on the driving data displayed in the app, you should protect your smartphone with a special Carrier for oxygen bottles attach directly to the handlebar.

By the way: Even with active tuning, the e-bike display will still show correct data, e.g. the actual speed and the distance traveled.

Important: Please DO NOT perform a software update on your GIANT e-bike drive system! The tuning may no longer work afterward. We also advise against using the Ride Control app, as the app could force an automatic software update!

New Features

The RedPed 3 for Giant now has the same enormous range of functions as the popular RedPed 3 for Bosch. Compared to the Redped 3 for Bosch, there are a number of improvements:

  • Max Speed up to 45 km/h does not need to be unlocked separately as with RedPed 3 for Bosch (at RedPed 3 for Bosch, the maximum speed can normally only be set to a range of 15-32 km/h - increasing it to up to 45 km/h is also possible, but this function must first be activated separately via the app).
  • Improved tuning activation than the RedPed 3 for Bosch.

In short, for Giant E-bikes there is hardly a better and more comprehensive tuning solution than the RedPed 3 module.

RedPed 3 for Giant – Functions & features at a glance

  • Repeal of the 25 km/h speed limit.
  • The maximum assisted speed can be set to a desired value of 15 – 45 km/h via the app (this is the theoretical maximum speed; the actual achievable maximum speed depends on various factors, such as the chainring).
  • Tuning Activation: You can activate the tuning via the RedPed App, or with the control buttons on the e-bike (using the light and walk buttons).
  • Set whether the tuning should be active all the time or only for one ride.
  • Even when tuning is active, the e-bike display shows correct values (current speed, distance traveled, etc.).
  • Tuning Timer: With this function, tuning is deactivated after a self-set time (between 10 and 180 seconds).
  • “Visibility”: Here you can set how long the RedPed 3 Module should be discoverable in the app after you turn on the e-bike. This way, you can prevent unauthorized access.
  • "Speed Offset": You can reduce the speed shown on the e-bike display by a value of your choice, from 0 to 15 km/h. For example, if you set a value of -10 km/h and are riding at a speed of (say) 35 km/h, the display will only show a speed of 25 km/h, and so on. The mileage will still be calculated correctly.
  • “Troll Mode”: In this mode, an intentional error is caused in the e-bike if no smartphone is connected to the RedPed module. Troll mode can be used to annoy people who have access to the e-bike but aren't supposed to ride it.
  • “Workshop Mode”: If this mode is set, the CAN BUS data is not transmitted through the RedPed Module tampered with. This can be useful, for example, if you need to take your e-bike to the workshop, etc.
  • “Split speed at”: Here you can set how the speed should be split (10-24 km/h).
  • Set PIN. Set a 6-digit PIN to RedPed To protect the module from unauthorized access.
  • Set module name (9 characters).
  • Enter wheel diameter (18,7" – 31,2").

Data display via app

by means of RedPed App you can not only change the settings of the RedPed You can also control the module, and you can also display a wide range of useful driving data and parameters. You have the option of customizing the app's appearance to suit your own preferences (changing the colors of certain values, hiding values, etc.). Here's a selection of the most important parameters displayed:

  • Tuning Status (On/Off)
  • support level
  • Speed (current, average, maximum in one line)
  • Crank speed in RPM (current, average, maximum in one line)
  • Crank torque in Nm (current, average, maximum in one line)
  • Rider power in watts (current, average, maximum in one line)
  • Engine power in percent (current, average, maximum in one line)
  • Battery charge level in percent
  • Range in km
  • Travel time in minutes
  • Charging cycles (number)
  • Driver's KCAL
  • Distance in km (current distance traveled)
  • Mileage of the module

On Android phones, you have the option to change the font size in the settings; on iPhones, you can zoom into the speedometer.

RedPed 3 for Giant – Installation & Functionality

The RedPed 3 is a module that connects between the motor and the speed sensor, as well as between the motor and the display. To access the connectors, the motor cover must be temporarily removed during installation. On many e-bike models, the module can be installed directly in the motor's connection area; alternatively, it can also be installed in the frame tube (although this usually requires removing the motor from the frame).

After installation and successful setup, the module measures the actual speed and generates its own speed signal for the engine control unit. Since it generates a lower speed, the factory speed limit of 25 km/h is overridden or canceled. Due to this operating principle, various values, such as the mileage, are incorrectly calculated by the engine control unit – however, the data is transferred to the RedPed 3 Module corrected again as long as it is connected (after starting the e-bike, the module disconnects the communication between the motor control unit and the e-bike display in order to send its own correct data to the display).

Depending on the e-bike model, the exact type of installation and the tools required may vary.

You can find installation and operating instructions here.

To install an E-Bike tuning chip in your E-Bike it is sometimes special tools necessary. Please check previously whether you have to open the engine compartment to access the motor connectors. This is especially true for products from the Modules, Kit, Dongle and Sensor

Normally (but not always) opening the engine compartment requires loosening the crank. To do this, you will need a Crank pullerSome engines also have a Spider Tool This is important for opening the lock ring on the chainring - because the chainring must be loosened here so that the motor cover can be removed to access the inside of the motor. If you want to replace the chainring (wear, change the gear ratio), you often need a Spider Tool. The necessary special tools can also be found in our shop. To remove the engine cover, you usually need a Torx or Allen key. For installing the modules, appropriate Pliers from the electronics sector.

Do you decide not for a tuning solution that you have to install in the engine compartment (Box, Software), there is no need for any tools. In our Guide you will find further tips.

Important information on tuning measures for e-bikes and e-scooters

We expressly point out that any modification to e-bikes and e-scooters – whether through hardware tuning (e.g. tuning chips, dongles, sensor adapters) or software tuning (e.g. apps, programs or USB tools) – can have consequences.

Tuning measures on e-bikes and e-scooters mean that they are no longer permitted for use on public roads as defined by the StVZO (Road Traffic Licensing Regulations). Legal use is therefore only possible on private property or - if permitted - in competitions. Riding an e-bike or e-scooter modified by tuning measures on public roads can lead to criminal liability for driving without a license (Section 21 of the Road Traffic Act) and driving without insurance (Section 6 of the PflVG). Tuning measures on e-bikes can lead to the loss of warranty rights and manufacturer guarantees. Furthermore, tuning measures can lead to the loss of insurance coverage and benefits from accident victim assistance in the event of an accident. The e-bike (or e-scooter) modified by tuning measures is subject to additional stress due to the higher speed, which can lead to safety risks.
