RedPed for Shimano EP801 and EP6
No more 25 km/h speed limit! Finally, the popular RedPed Module also available in a version specifically for Shimano EP6 / EP801 e-bike drives.
Hardly any other tuning module is as versatile in its range of functions. Thanks to its compatibility with the practical Redped 2 App There are numerous optimization options available. You can also view many useful driving parameters while on the go.
Important: The RedPed for Shimano EP801 and EP6 has been discontinued. As an alternative, only the MBIQ-P for Shimano EP801 / EP6 / EP600 into consideration.
Despite the new Shimano Anti-Tuning software, the RedPed very reliable; the susceptibility to errors is extremely low. We therefore give a very special purchase recommendation for this high-end tuning product!
A major innovation compared to the previous modules is that for the first time the real speed remains readable in the e-bike display, albeit as a decimal number (i.e. via the second digit and the decimal place).
The reset function has also been greatly simplified. In addition, there is a so-called “Mountain mode” especially for Shimano e-bikes with Di2 gears.
Another new option is the possibility firmware updates on the module. This way, the tuning can be updated and improved as needed.
The core function of the Redped module is to override the preset 25 km/h speed limit. The maximum speed can be set to a desired value via the app: 33 km/h by default, but up to 45 km/h can be increased at your own risk.
There is also the option to set an individual activation code to turn the tuning on and off.
Note: After installation, you can activate/deactivate the tuning via the app, but also via the control buttons on the e-bike. not It is essential to take your smartphone with you on every trip.
RedPed App - The E-Bike Tuning App:
New features compared to the previous module:
-Real speed Readable as a decimal number on the e-bike display (previously, only half of the actual speed was shown): From approximately 22 km/h, the current speed is displayed via the second digit and the decimal place on the display (a displayed speed of 23,2 km/h would therefore correspond to a real speed of 32 km/h, etc.). This function is, of course, only available on e-bike displays that display the speed with one decimal place.
-Very precise adjustment of the Wheel circumference via the AUTO function. A correct wheel circumference setting is important for a correct speed display.
-Mountain Mode for Shimano E-Bikes with Di2 gears. Background: Since the RedPed Since the split speed generated by the module always lags behind one wheel revolution, error W2 may occur on models with Di011 gears at low speeds. The Mountain Mode function synchronizes the speed of the bike and the RedPed module (this can, however, lead to small jumps in the speed display of the e-bike display).
-Easier reset: Performing a module reset is now easier than ever. Simply turn on the e-bike and plug the included reset cable into the reset connector. The RedPed Resets after 20 seconds. Simply remove the cable afterward.
-Firmware updates possible (via the RedPed 2 App).
RedPed for Shimano EP6 / EP801 - Functions
-25 km/h speed limit is liftedThis allows for much faster riding with full motor support.
-Maximum speed adjustable: About the RedPed The app allows you to set the maximum assisted speed to a desired value between 15 and 33 km/h. This limit was chosen because higher speeds could trigger the new Shimano anti-tuning software.
-Optionally, you can also increase the maximum speed on your own up to 45 km/h (to do this, you must tap "Unlock" ten times in the app before increasing the speed). However, this option is not recommended, as the new Shimano anti-tuning software could detect the tuning at speeds above 10 km/h. Increasing the speed is therefore at your own risk. Important: The increase to 45 km/h cannot be reversed, not even with a reset (45 km/h is the theoretical top speed; the actual achievable speed depends on various factors, e.g. chainring, gradient, etc.).
-Display of detailed driving data via the app (see below).
-Tuning can be activated / deactivated, either via the app or with the light button. When activated using the light button, you can specify how often the light needs to be turned on and off to turn on the tuning module (press 0-20 times). The counter function shows you how many times the light has already been turned on and off.
-Using the app you can set whether the tuning should be active permanently or only for one trip.
-Tuning Timer: With the Tuning Timer function, the tuning is deactivated after a self-set time as soon as the e-bike has come to a standstill (between 10 and 180 seconds).
- "visibility": Here you can specify how long the Redped module should be visible in the app after the e-bike has been switched on. This allows you to prevent unauthorized access by third parties.
- "Combination for visibility": Set how often the light must be turned on and off to make the module visible. The counter shows you how often the light has been turned on and off.
- "Share speed at": Here you can set how the speed should be divided (10-24 km/h). The higher the value, the better. However, if it's set too high, the motor assistance will stop before the set maximum speed is reached. If this happens, you'll need to reduce the set value again.
-Enter wheel diameter: By specifying the exact wheel diameter, you ensure that the exact speed is shown as a decimal number in the e-bike display (AUTO function).
-Set whether the e-bike display real speed should be displayed as a decimal number (yes / no).
-Mountain mode activate / deactivate (see above).
-Important note: Due to the new tuning detection, the Overrun function in the settings at RedPed 2s for Shimano EP6 / EP801 deactivated ("not active"). This means that the value under "Lag" only shows how many kilometers the motor is missing due to the speed division. However, this can no longer be compensated; the lag function can therefore not to be activated.
Display of driving parameters via the Redped 2 app
by means of RedPed App allows you to change the settings of the RedPed module. You can also conveniently set the speedometer's settings on your smartphone display while on the go. You can customize the display to your liking. For example, you can hide individual values or change the colors of columns and rows. You can also change the font size (Android) or zoom in on the speedometer (iOS).
Here are the driving parameters displayed, these are always real Values:
- Tuning Status (On/Off)
- Real speed
- Actual distance traveled
- top speed
- Average speed
- Duration of journey
- Mileage
The connection between the module and the smartphone app is wireless via Bluetooth.
firmware Update
This tuning module has the immense advantage of offering firmware updates (Android & iOS). Simply open the menu in the app and click on "Firmware Update." Under "RedPed Version" you will see the current firmware; the "Image Version" is the latest version. If this is higher than the "RedPed Version”, the button “Start Update” will be displayed automatically. As soon as you press the button, the update will start. After the update, the RedPed New module (all settings will be retained). Please note that the e-bike must not turn off during the update.
Installation & Functionality
At the RedPed This is a module that must be connected to the connectors on the motor (see below for detailed installation instructions and an example video). The module can usually be placed in the connection area of the motor (sometimes also in the frame tube). Once installed, the module is not visible from the outside.
The RedPed Module not; power is supplied via the e-bike.
To install the tuning chip, the motor cover must be temporarily removed. Connecting it is extremely simple – here are sample instructions for a Shimano EP6 e-bike:
- Disconnect the speed sensor plug from the motor.
- “Winged” plug of the RedPed Insert chips into the speed sensor socket on the e-bike.
- Then plug the e-bike’s speed sensor plug into the module socket labeled “Speed”.
- Blue cable lug in the Plus-Screw the pole of the light connection.
- Red cable lug in the Plus-Screw the terminal of the ACC connection.
- Switch on the e-bike and check whether the RedPed Module is found in the app.
- Turn the wheel and check whether a speed is shown on the e-bike display.
- The module can now be stowed away; for EP6 drives, the area directly above the motor is often suitable.
- Screw the motor housing back on.
Tools required: Phillips screwdriver (for removing the motor cover). In some cases, additional tools may be required.
You can find a YouTube video with an installation example on a Shimano EP6 motor "here".
Important note:
For the tuning to work properly on EP801 and EP6 engines, the ACC connection must be activated! Unfortunately, this is not the case for all models.
If the ACC connection cannot be activated, the module can also be connected to the lights. The disadvantage of this solution is that activation via the lights is not possible, and the lights must always be on.
To the RedPed To make the module robust and durable, the module's electronics were specially coated with a layer of lacquer. A heat-shrink tube with an adhesive inside provides additional protection.
After installation, the RedPed The module measures the current speed and generates its own speed signal for the engine control unit. The module transmits a lower speed, thus circumventing the 25 km/h speed limit. As a result, you can drive much faster with full engine support.
Compatibility
Typically, this RedPed Module is only Compatible with e-bikes with the following drive system:
-Shimano EP6 (Motor Firmware 4.2.2)
-Shimano EP801 (Motor Firmware 4.2.2)
Important: Compatibility can only be guaranteed up to the motor firmware versions specified above.
-Compatible with all displays

Tools
To install an E-Bike tuning chip in your E-Bike it is sometimes special tools necessary. Please check previously whether you have to open the engine compartment to access the motor connectors. This is especially true for products from the Modules, Kit, Dongle and Sensor.
Normally (but not always) opening the engine compartment requires loosening the crank. To do this, you will need a Crank puller. Some engines also have a Spider Tool This is important for opening the lock ring on the chainring - because the chainring must be loosened here so that the motor cover can be removed to access the inside of the motor. If you want to replace the chainring (wear, change the gear ratio), you often need a Spider Tool. The necessary special tools can also be found in our shop. To remove the engine cover, you usually need a Torx or Allen key. For installing the modules, appropriate Pliers from the electronics sector.
Do you decide not for a tuning solution that you have to install in the engine compartment (Box, Software), there is no need for any tools. In our Guide you will find further tips.

Important information on tuning measures for e-bikes and e-scooters
We expressly point out that any modification to e-bikes and e-scooters – whether through hardware tuning (e.g. tuning chips, dongles, sensor adapters) or software tuning (e.g. apps, programs or USB tools) – can have consequences.
Tuning measures on e-bikes and e-scooters mean that they are no longer permitted for use on public roads as defined by the StVZO (Road Traffic Licensing Regulations). Legal use is therefore only possible on private property or - if permitted - in competitions. Riding an e-bike or e-scooter modified by tuning measures on public roads can lead to criminal liability for driving without a license (Section 21 of the Road Traffic Act) and driving without insurance (Section 6 of the PflVG). Tuning measures on e-bikes can lead to the loss of warranty rights and manufacturer guarantees. Furthermore, tuning measures can lead to the loss of insurance coverage and benefits from accident victim assistance in the event of an accident. The e-bike (or e-scooter) modified by tuning measures is subject to additional stress due to the higher speed, which can lead to safety risks.
