You can turn the tuning on and off using your e-bike's light switch: Turning the light off activates the tuning. Turning the light on deactivates the tuning.
If you want, you can also use the tuning independently of the light function: In this case, you simply do not have to connect the red plug during installation; in this case, the SpeedBox Always active. Even if you don't have a light on your Shimano e-bike, the tuning is always on.
Please note: After installing the SpeedBox 1.3 chips, the e-bike display will only show correct values up to 23 km/h. If you do not want to miss out on the correct display of data such as the current speed, we recommend the SpeedBox 1.3 B.Tuning – this version of the tuning chip is compatible with the SpeedBox App, which can display the correct data on your smartphone's display while you're on the go. In this case, we recommend attaching your phone directly to the handlebars so you can easily see the data. You can find affordable mounts (LINK) in our shop.

Tools
To install an E-Bike tuning chip in your E-Bike it is sometimes special tools necessary. Please check previously whether you have to open the engine compartment to access the motor connectors. This is especially true for products from the Modules, Kit, Dongle and Sensor.
Normally (but not always) opening the engine compartment requires loosening the crank. To do this, you will need a Crank puller. Some engines also have a Spider Tool This is important for opening the lock ring on the chainring - because the chainring must be loosened here so that the motor cover can be removed to access the inside of the motor. If you want to replace the chainring (wear, change the gear ratio), you often need a Spider Tool. The necessary special tools can also be found in our shop. To remove the engine cover, you usually need a Torx or Allen key. For installing the modules, appropriate Pliers from the electronics sector.
Do you decide not for a tuning solution that you have to install in the engine compartment (Box, Software), there is no need for any tools. In our Guide you will find further tips.

Important information on tuning measures for e-bikes and e-scooters
We expressly point out that any modification to e-bikes and e-scooters – whether through hardware tuning (e.g. tuning chips, dongles, sensor adapters) or software tuning (e.g. apps, programs or USB tools) – can have consequences.
Tuning measures on e-bikes and e-scooters mean that they are no longer permitted for use on public roads as defined by the StVZO (Road Traffic Licensing Regulations). Legal use is therefore only possible on private property or - if permitted - in competitions. Riding an e-bike or e-scooter modified by tuning measures on public roads can lead to criminal liability for driving without a license (Section 21 of the Road Traffic Act) and driving without insurance (Section 6 of the PflVG). Tuning measures on e-bikes can lead to the loss of warranty rights and manufacturer guarantees. Furthermore, tuning measures can lead to the loss of insurance coverage and benefits from accident victim assistance in the event of an accident. The e-bike (or e-scooter) modified by tuning measures is subject to additional stress due to the higher speed, which can lead to safety risks.
