SpeedBox 1.3 for Shimano EP8 / EP800

The SpeedBox 1.3 completely removes the 25 km/h speed limit for e-bikes with Shimano EP8/EP800 drives, allowing you to ride much faster with full motor support. It's a tuning tool in the classic sense. This tuning chip has been redesigned and comes in a completely new design, including new hardware and firmware. The chip must be plugged into the E-Tube connector on the motor.

Important note: The manufacturer recommends not exceeding a speed of 35 km/h to avoid error W011. For B.Tuning models, the maximum speed can be adjusted in the SpeedBox App adjust accordingly.

Note: If you have a Shimano E-Bike without a free E-Tube connection (e.g. models with Di2 gears), please select the variant +E-Tube PortThis is usually the case with Shimano e-bikes with one of the following components:

  • Satellite system ON/OFF switch
  • Di2 derailleur

Tuning can be switched on and off

After installing the chip, you can activate and deactivate the tuning using the light button on the e-bike. When the light is off, the tuning is active and you can ride at unlimited speed (light off = tuning on). As soon as you turn the light back on, the tuning chip is deactivated and motor support ends, as in normal mode, at 25 km/h (light on = tuning off).

By the way, you can also use the tuning completely independently of the lighting function. In this case, you simply need to leave the red plug unplugged during installation; then the tuning will always be activated. If the e-bike doesn't have a lighting function, the tuning will also always be active.

Please note: With active tuning, the e-bike display will only show the correct data up to 23 km/h. If you don't want to miss out on accurate data such as your current speed, we recommend GPS-enabled devices such as smartphones. It's best to attach your phone directly to the handlebars so you can easily see the data. Affordable brackets can be found in our shop.

Installation

Within the SpeedBox 1.3 is a module or tuning chip that must be connected to the connectors on the motor. To access the connectors, you must temporarily remove the plastic cover of the motor. Unlike previous versions of the SpeedBox must the SpeedBox 1.3 plugged into the E-Tube connection of the motor.

Used in the production of the chips SpeedBox Only original connectors are used, making installation as straightforward as possible. With the help of the installation instructions and the corresponding graphics, the chip can also be installed by yourself.

If necessary, you can remove the chip at any time to restore the e-bike to its original condition.

To install an E-Bike tuning chip in your E-Bike it is sometimes special tools necessary. Please check previously whether you have to open the engine compartment to access the motor connectors. This is especially true for products from the Modules, Kit, Dongle and Sensor

Normally (but not always) opening the engine compartment requires loosening the crank. To do this, you will need a Crank pullerSome engines also have a Spider Tool This is important for opening the lock ring on the chainring - because the chainring must be loosened here so that the motor cover can be removed to access the inside of the motor. If you want to replace the chainring (wear, change the gear ratio), you often need a Spider Tool. The necessary special tools can also be found in our shop. To remove the engine cover, you usually need a Torx or Allen key. For installing the modules, appropriate Pliers from the electronics sector.

Do you decide not for a tuning solution that you have to install in the engine compartment (Box, Software), there is no need for any tools. In our Guide you will find further tips.

Important information on tuning measures for e-bikes and e-scooters

We expressly point out that any modification to e-bikes and e-scooters – whether through hardware tuning (e.g. tuning chips, dongles, sensor adapters) or software tuning (e.g. apps, programs or USB tools) – can have consequences.

Tuning measures on e-bikes and e-scooters mean that they are no longer permitted for use on public roads as defined by the StVZO (Road Traffic Licensing Regulations). Legal use is therefore only possible on private property or - if permitted - in competitions. Riding an e-bike or e-scooter modified by tuning measures on public roads can lead to criminal liability for driving without a license (Section 21 of the Road Traffic Act) and driving without insurance (Section 6 of the PflVG). Tuning measures on e-bikes can lead to the loss of warranty rights and manufacturer guarantees. Furthermore, tuning measures can lead to the loss of insurance coverage and benefits from accident victim assistance in the event of an accident. The e-bike (or e-scooter) modified by tuning measures is subject to additional stress due to the higher speed, which can lead to safety risks.
