This tuning module offers an unusually wide range of optimization options. Not only does it remove the speed limit, but you can also set the top speed to a custom value between 25 km/h and 45 km/h. Furthermore, a so-called "Dynamic Mode" can be selected, in which the motor assistance no longer stops so abruptly when the set top speed is reached. This results in significantly more comfortable riding. All this while maintaining the correct speed display on the screen.

In addition, there is VOLspeed V4 has a number of new features that were not available in the previous VOLspeed Modules weren't available before. For example, the motor support can now be individually adjusted for each driving mode. Furthermore, the tuning can now be used immediately after plugging in ("Plug & Ride") – a complicated setup is no longer necessary.

As with the previous VOLspeed Modules also, can be VOLspeed V4 allows you to conveniently adjust all settings using the e-bike's control buttons; no PC or smartphone is required.

The VOLspeed V4 is compatible with Bosch Gen4 drives with anti-tuning software, among others. Since the maximum motor support is limited to 45 km/h, the manufacturer claims the infamous anti-tuning software doesn't trigger (error 504). Higher speeds are virtually impossible to achieve in reality anyway due to the bike's gear ratio. The manufacturer has tested the product extensively, and no 504 errors were generated.

If you want to get the absolute best out of your Bosch e-bike and optimize your vehicle in many different ways, this is VOLspeed V4 is an excellent choice.

VOLspeed V4 for Bosch Gen4 – Features at a glance:

• No more 25 km/h speed limit.

• Maximum speed freely adjustable. You can conveniently set the maximum speed in 1 km/h increments from 25 km/h to 45 km/h using the + and – buttons.

• During testing by the manufacturer, there was no tamper detection (error 504).

• Dynamic Mode: In this mode, the motor support stops less abruptly when the set maximum speed is reached. The result is a more pleasant driving experience.

• Accurate display of speed, distance traveled, and average speed. The speed display is even somewhat more accurate than usual – with Bosch drives, the speed is always displayed about 5% too high, even with the wheel circumference set correctly. Tuning, on the other hand, calculates the actual speed based on the set wheel circumference and displays it correctly. This works even when the tuning module is turned off.

• NEW: The module initializes automatically after installation and is immediately ready for use ("Plug & Ride"). This also applies when converting the module to another bike or changing to a different display.

• NEW: Assistance levels are individually configurable (alternative mode). For each gear level (Turbo, EMTB/Sport, Tour, Eco), an individual configuration can be set – specifically, the strength of the motor assistance can be set, even depending on the speed. Of course, the original riding modes are also retained. The alternative riding modes can be easily activated while riding using the WALK button, and you can easily switch between the standard and alternative modes (this function is not available with the Smartphone Hub and Cobi). The user-defined alternative modes can even be combined with the popular "Dynamic Mode." By default, the alternative mode is already pre-set with sensible values ​​in each gear level (the assistance is slightly higher than in the original setting).

• Remaining range calculation based on the current driving style with active tuning.

• The tuning can be switched on and off using the e-bike's control buttons (after switching on the bike, the tuning is always switched off).

• Individual activation code. It is possible to set a custom code that can be used to activate the tuning using the control buttons on the e-bike (this feature is not available with the Smartphone Hub and Cobi).

• Battery charge level in percent alternating with the remaining range when tuning is active. On Intuvia and Purion displays, the battery charge level in percent is also shown, alternating with the range (applies not for the other displays, as these already have a charge level indicator in percent). Interval: 4 seconds range, one second battery level.

• Correct total mileage, even after removal of the VOLspeed V4 module. This is possible because the mileage in the engine control unit is tracked by the tuning module.

• The VOLspeed V4 does not require its own battery.

• Since the module is very small, it can be easily placed in the engine housing.

Mounting

The VOLspeed The V4 module must be connected to the e-bike motor, invisible from the outside. To do this, the module must be plugged into the connectors on the motor. Since these connectors are located under the left motor cover, the motor cover must be temporarily removed. Removing the cover requires special tools, usually an ISIS crank puller and a TX20 Torx wrench (depending on the model).

To install the VOLspeed V4 module no cables need to be damaged or modified.

-IMPORTANT: We generally advise against Bosch software updates - it cannot be guaranteed that the tuning will still work afterwards.

Only Bosch e-bikes with the old “Classic Line“ drive (Gen1, model year 2013 or older) or with the new “Bosch Smart System” (model year 2022) not more supported. The “Smart System“ is also referred to as “BES3” or generally “Gen5”. 

For the new Bosch Smart System is the VOLspeed V2 for Bosch Smart System (BES3) appeared. 

Tip: Bosch Smart System E-Bikes (BES3) can be easily identified by the plug on the charging cable.

Does your Bosch e-bike have a round plug (as shown here), you have the correct Tuning module selected. If your Bosch e-bike does not have either of these plugs, you either do NOT have a Bosch e-bike, or you have an e-bike with the old Gen1 drive (Classic Line).

In contrast to the previous VOLspeed Modules only support Bosch e-bikes whose factory speed limit is up to 25 km/h – for Bosch e-bikes where the factory maximum speed is 20 km/h or 45 km/h, the new VOLspeed V4 no longer.
